Umunede Patriotic Congress (UPC) joins APC

A social political group, Umunede
Patriotic Congress in their last meeting held on Tuesday, 6th August, 2013
unanimously accepted a motion moved by a member of the group to join the newly
registered political party, All Progressives Congress (APC). The motion which
was moved by Hon Gabriel Akpe was seconded by Augustine Nwokolobia.

According to the group, “the news of
the registration of APC brought great joy to us and no doubt the new party will
bring new wind of change to Umunede and Nigerians in general. Our joining the
party is of no regret but for the good and betterment of Umunede kingdom.”

Hon S.N Azubuike (JP) who spoke to
newsmen said Umunede have over the years been marginalized by the other
political parties that they belonged to, saying that the need for a change
necessitated for UPC to join APC. According to him, “since 15 years to the
present democratic dispensation, the community had nothing to show that the
ruling political party meant well for them, no Umunede person in any elective or
appointed position. We are left with decaying infrastructure and had been
grieving over the non increase in the only three wards we have in 1960 only to
be reduced to just one ward with no reason, yet our population is increasing
each passing day. A change is what we all want; hoping that the newly
registered political party will take us to our promise land.”

On their parts, Amb. S. Mordi and Hon
Alex Mekwuye stated that Umunede have been wickedly marginalized, stating that
the large turn out of Umunede people to the meeting attest to the fact that
they want a positive change in all raminifications.

They concluded by calling on people
of Umunede both at home and Diaspora to join them in APC, describing APC as a
party for change and good governance.
