RE:
IKA YOUTHS INDICTS IKA POLITICAL LEADERS

My
attention has been drawn to a publication in Anioma Watch published
on 27th
September spanning to 3rd
October, 2011. In this dispensation where serious socio-political
issues are competing for attention, one would ordinarily not react to
issues without depth, premised on political patronage in order not to
give them unwarranted relevance, but for the purpose of putting the
records straight, and reorienting individuals and institutions in
dire need of redirection, the real progressives decided to do this
rejoinder.

The
allegation that Ika politicians have not performed, and are still not
performing as presented in a press statement by Ika Progressive Youth
group through its Public Relation Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Osiesi, is
ill-conceived, and unacceptable. Ika has produced political leaders
who have distinguished themselves in local, state and federal
governments both in appointive and elective positions. It is on
record that one of the finest and seasoned administrators in this
democratic dispensation in Delta Sate government is of Ika
extraction. A pan Anioma magazine (Trends magazine) recently awarded
an Ika son, the politician of the year 2011. It is not in doubt that
some Ika citizens did not do very well as they failed to deliver the
dividends of democracy in line with the mandate they had. They ended
up bringing Ika nation to disrepute as it was on national television
and other media houses. These are persons who refused to accept the
holistic approach of surrendering to honesty, transparency,
experience and credible leadership.

Ika
political leadership has done well and is still doing well, in line
with their political terms of reference. This present administration
is a little more than 100 days old. Government needs time to
formulate politics, budget and appropriate to deliver the dividends
of democracy. I think this group needs political education,
especially on the various arms of government, and their functions.

The
Executive arm of government implements politics, therefore,
construction of Old Lagos-Asaba Road is an Executive function and at
best, Ika politicians can only persuade, lobby or influence its
construction. The only time an Ika man had the exclusive prerogative
on Executive issues was when we had an Acting Governor. The Acting
Governor did his best, considering the short time of his tenure. In
all however, posterity will judge.

The
positive contributions of Ika leaders cannot be over emphasized.
Today, an Ika son is representing Delta North in the senate. It is on
record that since the inauguration of the 7th
Senate, Anioma is getting an effective representation at the senate.
We have probably the most vibrant new entrant in the senate . Anioma
ably represented the South-South in the senate review of sales of
government companies by the Bureau for Public Enterprise. Anioma is
also represented in the ECOWAS Parliament and is now being seen and
heard in various Ministerial Committees.

The
ecological issues facing Delta North, especially Owa and Ogwashi-Uku
is receiving government attention through the persuasive
articulation of the distinguished senator. How can this faceless
group justify their assertion? It is my opinion that we need a
pragmatic reorientation to create a robust political culture, and
move from these ‘pull him down’ syndrome that has failed and will
continue to fail. Must meritocracy be sacrificed on the alter of
pedestrian parochial interest? The answer is N0.

We
have efficient capacity builders at the National Assembly, and it is
important that we key into their model to alleviate the problems of
political poverty as demonstrated by the quality of the press
statement released by Ika Progressive Youth Union, Ika nation is
tired of criticism. It is time to talk solution.

Youth
bodies across the State e.g Urhobo Council, Ijaw Youth Congress,
Ugborodo Trust, etc are busy agitating for the dividends of democracy
like state creation, employment quota, location of oil companies and
infrastructures etc. A youth body in just one senatorial district is
claiming they are the sixth largest tribe in Nigeria, but Ika nation
is dotted around three Local Government Area one in Edo State, two in
Delta and pockets of Ika voices are heard in Imo and Nssuka axis of
Eastern Nigeria. What is Ika Youth doing? Let us dwell on issues
that unite us rather than those that disunite us. Let us live in the
present and not in the past, let us think of creating a true Ika
identity; it is not too late to start. We have a leadership; let us
sheath our swords and work for the collective interest of our
fatherland.

DUALISATION:
HITECH INTERSIFIES WORK

By
Augustine Ekamagule and Nelly Michael

The
dualisation of the Old Lagos/Asaba road, the major road that links
the two local governments in Ika land sooner or later might turn out
to be real as the contracting firm handling the project, Hi-Tech
Engineering LTD has during the week intensified work on the road.
Work on the road which has become an issue of serious debate among
Ika people because of the slow pace it is going and the Delta State
government lukewarmish attitude on the project. The Dr. Emmanuel
Uduaghan administration in Delta State has as part of his
electioneering campaign promises in 2007 promised Ika Nation that he
is going to dualise the Old Lagos/Asaba road if voted into office as
governor . Since then, all efforts to have him fulfill his promise
has not yielded positive results. Apex groups in Ika land such as the
Ika landlords/Landladies Association, Onu Ika, Ika Elders Forum,
Human Right groups including individuals has on many occasions
reminded Dr. Uduaghan of his promise through the staging of peaceful
protests and appeals. Their struggles are aimed at drawing the
government’s attention to the plight of users of the Old
Lagos/Asaba road are passing through everyday.

When
Ika
Weekly
visited the Okoh junction/Union Bank axis of the road, bulldozers of
the contracting firm were seen demolishing fences and other
structures that encroached the road.

Some
of the residents who spoke to Ika Weekly on the new development says
they are expect that the Delta State government will not fail this
time. They therefore called for a thorough supervision of the project
by the state government, particularly the State Ministry of Work many
of the people spoken to says they appreciate the efforts of well
meaning interest groups in Ika land as well as individuals for their
contribution thus far saying that they should not relent until the
road is completed and commissioned.

interdenominational Christian body known as Ika For Christ Crusaders

crusade which has the theme: Hope At Last is scheduled to hold
between December 2-4, 2011 at Owa Model Primary School, Boji-Boji Owa

According
to the crusade Director, Rev Charles Eloebhose of Pentrcostal Flame
Fire Assembly Umunede, the crusade which will feature salvation,
miracles, deliverance from demonic bondage, breakthroughs is being
powered by Life Way Magazine, a gospel magazine based in Lagos. He
said the guest minister is Evangelist Taiwo Ola, a vibrant Nigerian
preacher.

In
the word of Rev. Eloebhose, the Ika Transformation Crusade is going
to be a unique one as it is not only focusing a soul winning alone
but also integrating the souls won into the local churches. He added
that apart from soul winning, the Ika for Christ Crusades is also
committed to prayers which they believe that through which, the
government can be touched to address some of the developmental
problems in Ika land.

The
co-ordinator of the crusade, Rev Dr. Fidelis Eboagwu of the Bible
Faith Family Church, Agbor said so many souls have been lost to the
devil in Ika land, stressing that the Ika Transformation Crusade is
being organized to help win back the lost souls in Ika land to Jesus
Christ and also to pray for the development of Ika nation.

On
his part, secretary of the crusade committee, Pastor Anothony
Aghaolor of the Ark of God Mission, Boji-Boji, Owa told Ika
Weekly
that the crusade is going to be a unique one. “Many crusades have
been held before now in Ika land but some of the souls won are not in
the church. Because of this, we have set up a monitoring team to
ensure that souls won in the crusade will be integrated fully into
the body of Christ.

Appreciating
the efforts of servant of God and churches who have organized
crusades in the past in Ika land, the publisher of Life Way Magazine,
in Lagos, Jackson Ekwugwu said they have decided to use the theme
“Hope At Last for the crusade because when there is hope, man is
bound to make progress in life. He maintained that Jesus is the
only solution to all the problems of man on earth saying that, that
is why LifeWay Magazine, a gospel magazine that is dedicated to
proclaiming the goodness of Jesus Christ all over Nigeria and in
Africa has deemed it fit to partner with Ika For Christ Crusades to
hold a three days power packed crusade in Ika land. He stated that
one of the reasons for the partnership is that they have seen the
desire of the Ika for Christ crusaders group to expand the kingdom of
God in Ika land. “We felt it is a good ground to sow into. It is
going to be a different crusade because adequate plans has been made
for the integration of souls that will be won in the crusade.
Therefore called on the residents of Ika land to turn out en-masse
for the crusade for it is going to be a life changing one.

P F N IGBODO UNIT INAUGUARATES NEW EXECUTIVE

By Thomas 1 Peter

Eight elected executive members have been Inaugurated in
Igbodo Unit of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (P.F.N.) on Saturday
2nd of October, 2011. Each executive will steer the ship of
leadership for a tenure of four years.

Inaugurating the executive, the Ika North –east Local
Government Chairman of the body, Apostle Dr. Triumph Osian
(Bishop–Elect), charged the executive members to live up to their
responsibilities by leading by example.

He stressed the need for them to lead the people with
passion humility and patriotism, throwing away pride and despotism
and embrace servant hood style of leadership. He noted that God is
interested in what transpires in our heart.

Taking a look at Jesus humility towards his disciples
which he demonstrated by washing their feet, Apostle Osian said any
a leader who exhibits the attitude of pride in his leadership always
end up as a failure. Apostle Osian made reference to a man in the
bible whose name was Amaziah. According to him, Amaziah was a man who
did what was right in the sight of God, but not with a perfect heart,
a character said Christians should not copy .

He advice them to be patriotic as leaders "for
leaders are chosen by God not men, it is neither by age nor by
height, but by divine calling." The clergyman solicited for the
support of all members of the body of Christ since "a tree
cannot make a forest" praying that the PFN Igbodo Unit will
experience great change.

He told them to be quick to hear but show to speak as
leaders. He commended the good work done by the Immediate past
administration, under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Ojemi who was
recently elevated to serve in the Local Government executive of the
body. He pleaded that the same support given to the past chairman,
Pastor Samuel Ojemi be given to the new chairman Pastor G.O. Iwebuka

High point of the occasion was the official swearing in
of the executive. The Eight man executive took their oaths of
allegiance, which was administered by Apostle Dr. Osian, after which
they were anointed and prayed for. The mantle of leadership was
officially handed over to pastor G.O Iwebuka.

Responding, the newly sworn in chairman Pastor G.O
Iwebuka speech, thanked God Almighty who has made the day a reality
saying that true leadership or leaders are made by God not man. He
pleaded for an enabling environment to operate in order for them to
carry every body along, which he said it is their duties to do so.

Pastor Iwebuka commended his predecessor, Pastor Samuel
Ojemi and his ex-executive members that made it their duty not to
allow the work of the Lord to die in their time. He told them to be
supportive to the new Government in the area of prayer and advice so
that their success might be guaranteed.

He appreciate the Local Government Executive of PFN who
has done a good job, which shows a strong indication that they have
Igbodo Unit at heart".

Pastor G.O. Iwebuka advised the Federal Government of
Nigeria to make haste to tackle the prevailing challenges of Boko
Heram sect which has retarded the development of this present
administration. He said that it is not beyond the power of the
Federal Government to find lasting solution to the problem.
