Judgement in the
murder of the late Elema of Obi-Anyima community in Abavo, Mr. Aminawon Vincent
Uti Chinyem is presently facing difficulties following the intrusion on the
case by a popular politician in Ika South whom they said his father is one
of the suspected killers of the Elema.
The popular
politician (a lady) whose father has
been in detention since the Elema was killed, Ika Weekly gathered has been
using her high connections and money to lobby the powers that be so that his
father would be released.
According to a
family member of the late Elema, who refused to give his name for reasons best
known to him, seven members of the Obianyima community who did not know
anything of the murder are still in detention. He said all attempts to grant
them bail have proved abortive because the popular politician has a hand in it.
The family member appealed to concerned individuals, particularly Human Rights
groups to intervene in the matter so that all those who have hands in the death
of the late Elema of Obi Anyima will be brought to book.
Aminawon Vincent Uti Chinyem, the Elema of
Obianyima in Abavo was killed in cold blood on the 15th May 2011 on his way to Obianyima by assassins
allegedly believed to be hired by some prominent people in the community. It
was gathered that the Elema was killed because of the leadership tussle in the
community between him (Elema) and another leader in the area over who should be
the head of Obianyinma where oil was recently discovered.
