Ika South Local Government Conucil
has cleared the blocked drainages at Professor Ebie and Mariere Streets, Agbor.
The drainages which were before now blocked had impeded the free flow of water
in the area. The Head of Department, Environment, Ika South local government,
Mr. Ekih F. N, the supervisor of Environment, Hon Maureen Olijie and the
chairman Sanitation Committee, Hon. Patience Onyesom, aka, Last K., alongside other environmental
officers from the council Supervised the monthly exercise on Saturday, 27th
April, 2013.
Speaking
to newsmen during the exercise, Mr Ekih used the opportunity to inform
residents of the area that the council is working in collaboration with the
Ministry Environment, Asaba to yield to the warning of the Nigeria
Meteorological Agency (NIMET), which predicted that 2013 will experience
heavier rainfall than last year.
He
said as result of the prediction, Ika South Council will be embarking on the
clearing of drains, water ways, surface drains, demolition / removal of illegal
structures and caravans on top of drains, water ways, attached to wall
fences, adding that there will also be
enforcement on restriction of street trading and those on top of drains.
He
called on residents of the local government who are involved in any of the
aforementioned acts to desist from the
as anyone caught will be arraigned before sanitation mobile court that
will be on stand by to try offenders, disclosing that offenders will be made to
bear the cost of demolition and evacuation.
