AGBOR (Ika Weekly) – The Licensed Electrical Contractor’s Association of Nigeria (LECAN) Ika Chapter and other stakeholders in the power sector in Ika land have been urged to assist Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to bring a lasting solution to the erratic power supply in the area.
The call was made by the Chairman of LECAN, Comrade V.O. Nwaokenye, when the association paid a courtesy visit to the new PHCN, Agbor Undertaking Manager, Engr. F.O. Okhuoya, in his office on Wednesday at Agbor.
Comrade Nwaokenye appealed to the Manager, to bring his many years of experience in tackling the perennial power outage in Ika land. He also solicited the assistance of the PHCN Manager in expediating the construction of the 33 KVA step down station located at Boji-Boji, Owa in Ika North East Local Government Area, by urging the contractor handling the project to return to site, without further delay, because the people are anxious to have the job completed. He equally appealed to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and other prominent Ika indigenes to see to the completion of the project.
Comrade Nwaokonye decried the activities of unskilled electricians who engage in the handling of electrical installations, construction, wiring and maintenance and thereby causing damages to electricity transformers, feeder pillars, bushbars and other electrical components.
The chairman advised electricity consumers in Ika land to desist from employing the services of quacks, instead they should engage qualified and registered members of LECAN who are statutorily empowered by the Electricity Regulatory Ordinance under section 4(p) cap 106 of the Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (L.F.N) 1990 to undertake all electrical works.
Comrade Nwaokenye told the manager of PHCN Agbor Unit, that the association appreciates his effort and vision at seeing that electricity supply improves in Ika land.
Responding, the members of the association, the manager, Engr. Okhuoya thanked them for the vist and promised to do his best in arresting the poor power supply to consumers.
