The indication
was given by the Special Project Director in charge of the dulaization of the
road, Hon. Cordelia Onyia at the palace of the Dein of Agbor kingdom on Monday
October 5, 2009, when she, in company of the Managing Director of HI-TECH Nig Ltd, Mr. J.J. Gougassian and
their teams visited His Royal Majecty, Keagborekuzi 1st, Dein of
Agbor kingdom.
Hon. Onyia and
her team who were received on behalf of the Dein by palace Chiefs informed the
gathering that the road project will soon take off, as some preliminary work,
which will lead to the commencement of the major work have been carried out.
Addressing the
palace chiefs, the Managing Director of Hi-Tech, the construction firm awarded
the contract for the dualization of the Old Lagos/Asaba road, Mr. Gougassian
said they were at the palace to identify and solicit the support of the royal
father and the people of Agbor in the execution of the project, which he noted
was of great importance to the people. He stated that it is a standing policy
of the company to always identify and seek the assistance of host communities
where they work. While stating that the project will take about 3 years to
complete, in answer to a question raised on the duration of the project, the MD
promised to utilize indigenous manpower and local resources in the cause of
executing the job. ?It has always been the objective of our company to always
take care of host communities in terms of labour and materials. It is standing
policy of the company. And we hope to adhere to it as we work in your land.? he
reassured
Mr. Gougassian,
commenting on the issue of compensation said that the state government will
duly compensate those whose structures and buildings will be affected as a
result of the dualization. He also promised that his company will carry out the
job in line with specification and within stipulated time.
On her part, the
Special Project Director, Hon. Cordelia Onyia told the Dein?s representatives
that the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has promised to complete all
special projects within his tenure in office, which include the Old Lagos/Asaba
road. ?The governor, His Excellency, Dr. Uduaghan is very serious about these
projects and he is poised to have them completed.? she stated
Speaking on
behalf of the Dein, Chief S.N. Egede assured the Special Project Director and
the MD of H-Tech and their teams of the unalloyed support of the His Royal
Majesty and the people of Agbor to the successful completion of the project.
The teams were
also at the palace of the Obi of Owa Kingdom, where they informed His Royal
Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor and his Chiefs of the strong desire of the
company to have the project properly and speedily executed.
Mr. Gougassian
while stressing the importance of host communities in the execution of any
project, solicited for the support of the Owa Monarch and his people within the
duration of the road project. He promised to execute the job to maximum
standard that will impress the people of the area.
Responding, His
Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II (JP) congratulated Mr. Gougassian for
the contract and emphasized the need for a thoroughly executed job. ?We will be
very happy if the job is done to specification and within stipulated time
frame. The dualization of the road will go a long way in promoting
socio-economic activities, especially in the metropolis. I am aware that
infrastructural development is part of the 3-point agenda of the Uduaghan
government. We will continue to support the effort of the governor in
developing the state. We assure you that the community will extend needed
support and create the right environment to carry out your work. Since you are
here to serve our interest, we in turn are ready to give necessary assistance
to see that the job is done,? he stated
Dr. Efeizomor
who noted that the dualization of old Lagos/Asaba road will be a plus to the
administration of governor Uduaghan said he and his people will continue to
rally round the governor. While praying for continued peace in the state and
the country, the royal father said he hoped for good relationship between the
construction firm and the host communities, even as he solicited for the use of
labour from the communities.
On the entourage
of the Special Project Director and the Managing Director were Hon. Godwin
