RESIDENTS OF UPPER ODOZI CRIES TO GOVERNMENT FOR HELP

First to speak to Ika Weekly was Mr. Fortunate
Agholor who said that the condition of the street has become a nightmare to the
people as a result of the difficulties which residents pass through for years,
“ this road was awarded by the past governor Chief James Ibori regime which
unfortunately was abandoned, I appeal to the present governor, Dr. Emmanuel
Uduaghan to see that the contract specification is done.” Mr. Agholor who said
he is the chairman of People Democratic Party for Ward 8 in Ika South begged
the contractor to speed up the work before the rainy season, “I thank the
various leaders in Ika South like Rt. Hon. Martins Okonta, Speaker of Delta
State House of Assembly, Queen Mother Victoria Ikechukwu, Hon. Dr. Cairo
Ojougboh who are battling to see that the so many abandoned projects in Ikaland
are revisited.”

Miss Ngozi Ugbomoh also wants the contractor
handling the project to empower his staffs to work day and night to avoid the
usual flood in the street. She stated that a standard culvert should be
constructed at the two sides of the street for free flow of water, “ the
government, influential political leaders in Ika South should make sure that
this road is completed before the rain, the road is so bad adjoining street
whenever there is rainfall until the rain have subsided, Upper Odozi street is
of major importance to Ika South, we therefore appeal for help.”

An anonymous respondent told Ika Weekly that the
government should constantly monitor the progress of the job to avoid laxity on
the part of the contractor, “I call on the government to be sincere on this
road because the road is very important to the residents due to the strategic
location of Upper Odozi street, the contractor should be mandated to complete
the job before the rainy season.”

Mrs. Anthonia Okwuada who was visibly elated told
Ika Weekly that the initial reaction of the residents was caution due to their
past experiences concerning the road, “ this is the fourth time, this road have
been graded by different contractors, we appeal to the government and the
contactor to complete the job in record time.” Mr. Okwuada also appeals to Ika
Weekly to continue the good work of enlightening the government on problems
confronting Ikaland, I am particular happy with the efforts of Ika Weekly in
the area of putting Ikaland in the front burner of socio-political issues, I
say God bless you all.”

Others who spoke, begged Ika Weekly to as a matter
of fact continue to highlight Ikaland to the outside world by constantly
“projecting Ika land problems to the government and pressurizing politicians of
Ika origin to help Ika nation so that their ratings will improve in the eyes of
the people.”
