It was a great summer weekend in July last two months, as Igbodo citizens gathered in U.S Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area, to celebrate their 24th year of togetherness as a body known as Igodo Development Union (IDU) Overseas chapter.
The IDU President-General, Chief Peterson Ozile, the Okugbama of Igbodo kingdom, who represented the Obi of Igbodo kingdom and the Obi-in council as delegated, another noble son of Igbodo, Barrister Victor Nwokolo and added flavor to the event. The amenable delegates from home did not only add flavor to the celebratory mood but brought some important news from home. The arrival of Dr. Mrs. Isioma Okobal with her husband and children also added calour to the celebration.
However, it was during the Saturday the afternoon session, that Dr. Mrs. Okobah announced to the hearing of the general audience of IDU members of her intention to contest for the House of Representative, representing Ika Federal constituency. Dr. Mrs. Okobah who spoke at length listed her three point agenda. The husband, Chief, Barr. Prince Christopher Okobah took the podium and enumerated the need to support his wife in her ambition, for the good of Ika people. Chief Ozili and Bar. Nwokolo also encouraged every Igodo person to support Dr. Mrs. IsiomaOkobah. Similarly, the IDU unanimously agreed to give Dr. Mrs. Okoba their maximum support. For the general good Igbodo citizens. They also averred that God has added the needed tool to the IDU tool box in pursuit in pursuit of development in Igbodo and Ika led in general just as they strongly believed that only government can bring needed development to Igbodo land, decrying that Igbodo and many other kingdoms have been cheated for so long by Ika political leaders.
Dr. Mrs. IsiomaOkobah lad earlier taken the full back page cover of the Igbodo 2011 convention brochure to announce her intention in print. The publication was well circulated among ,,, that graced the highly attended evening cultural gala night, where Igbodo sons and daughters displayed the rich Ika dance and culture.
During the celebration, the Obi of Igbodo called in via telephone, he spoke to his people on things to brainstorm on including the method by which to save Ika language from extinction. He however, encouraged the entire IDU members especially parents to make it a civic duty to teach their children, Ika language.
By and large, the IDU members called on their Igbodo brothers and sisters in government to assist in Igbodo development, decrying the fact that Igbodo has been abandoned by all Ika political leaders for many years. They therefore, charged the central Executive Council (CEC) and the Obi-In-Council and the entire Igbodo kingdom to publicly question the Ika political leaders on the long time neglect issues. "We see no reason only Igbodo, who has contributed so much and have given their best talent to Ika nation as well as Nigeria, was denied everything," adding that Igbodo men and women have embarked and completed many projects in Igbodo land without any help from the government."
Igbodo farmers have fed many mouths in Ika land and Nigeria as whole. Yet the most popular market in Ika land in at the brink of extinction as Igbodo and Ika political leaders watch from the side line," They complained
