PROVOST COE AGBOR CHARGES ALIHAME COMMUNITY TO ALWAYS GUARANTEE SATETY OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES OF STUDENTS

 

The
Provost,  College of Education, Agbor,
Dr. D. O Okobia,  Monday 11th March, 2013
held a meeting with Alihame Community representatives, executive of Student
Union Government (SUG), DELSU, Agbor Campus, the landlords of   “Rich Lodge” in Alihame, over the issue of
the issue of unlawful maltreatment and taken of hostage of the SUG president,
Comr. Odia Praise and one Mr. Henry, the caretaker of the hostel which led to
the slapping of the president six times, without the host community, Alihame,
doing anything to protect the students.

                The meeting which was held at
College of Education, Agbor witness the presence of National Association of
Nigeria Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, (JCC) Alihame community
representative and the landlord of “Rich lodge,” who invited the military  men that melted injuries on the SUG
president.

                After much delibrations on the
issue, the said landlord Mr. Richard appologised to the general house, saying
that he called the military men base on ignorance.

                Speaking on behalf of Alihame
community, Bar. Ebomah Emmanuel, president Alihame Community Development Union
(ACDU) condemned the act of Mr. Richard inviting the Army in a case that
involve students.

                He noted that Alihame community
is a peaceful environment, adding that the community on their own have been
making sure that there is a peaceful co-existence between the students and the
community.

                He commended the efforts of the
school management, especially the provost for the manner and way they handled
the issue peacefully. “ We urged the management to always ensure peaceful
co-existence between the community and the school”

                The provost, Dr. D.O Okobia
charged the Alihame community leaders to always ensure they guarantee the
safety of lives and properties of students in their community .He urged the
Alihame Vigilantee Group (AVG) to always ensure that the rights of the students
are protected, adding that minor case should be reported to the schools
management and only criminal cases to the police.

                The house later resolved that
Mr. Richard (landlord of Rich lodge] should pay for damages and should make
public apology to the students on Tuesday next week by 10:00 am in the school
premises for the defamation of  charter,
humiliation and publicassault melted on the SUG president. Mr. Richard thanked
the provost, members of NANS/ JCC for the way they were able to resolve the
issue, adding that he will comply with the conditions given to him and also
ensure that he settles the hospital bills.

                The provost appreciated the
efforts of NANS /JCC executives and students, for the peace they maintained
throughout the period, adding that peace is better than war.
