AGBOR KINGDOM CELEBRATES

AGBOR (Ika Weekly) The people of Agbor Kingdom on Monday, 1st of October, observed the yearly ritual of New Yam Festival celebration, which was to appreciate God for granting them bountiful harvest.

                            

The ‘Iwagi’, as it is traditionally known started off in the morning at the Dein’s royal palace, with all Agbor traditional titleholders and sons and daughters of the ancient kingdom in attendance. The people of Agbor and other well wishers of the kingdom came in large numbers to identify and felicitate with the Agbor Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Dein Keagborekuzi 1 on the auspicious and joyous occasion.

                            

The different villages that make up Agbor Kingdom, in keeping with the ancient tradition of the land came with gifts that comprised of yam tubers, and other farm produce to their highly respected monarch. The palace inturn, in appreciation of the good disposition of the people made available food and drinks to them. There was open show of conviviality amongst the people.

                            

The rich culture of the people of Agbor was highly on display, with different cultural dancing groups from various villages adequately represented. Not left out also were women groups who added colour to the celebration.

                            

Also at the event were the various chapters of National Association of Ika Students, which came to pay homage to the Dein. There were a lot of socio-cultural bodies present at the occasion.

                            

Prominent sons and daughters of the Kingdom took turns to present gifts, ranging from yams to goats and cows to the palace. Children were given ample opportunity to express themselves through singing and dancing.

                            

Speaking to Ika Weekly at the palace ground, a prominent palace Chief (Hon) Sunny Anumele, Onye Dein Janma of Agbor Kingdom, gave glory to God for preserving the people of the Kingdom and for granting them bountiful harvest this year. He commended the leadership style and fatherly disposition of His Royal Majesty, Keagborekuzi 1, saying that it has engendered peace and progress in the land. He thanked the entire people of Agbor Kingdom for their support and cooporation with the palace, and implored them to continue to identify with the Agbor Manarch, at all times.
