NIGERIA PROBLEM IS LEADERSHIP STYLE, MERGER IS NOT THE SOLUTION- Rev. C.I. Ogumu

s  Pentecostal
Church with headquarters in Agbor, Rev. Dr. Clement Ifeanyi Ogumu, while
speaking to Ika Weekly corrspondent at his office in Agbor over the weekend.

                Rev.
Ogumu stated that political  office
holders do not know when to apply a particular leadership style at a given
circumstance. He noted that, though there is no particular leadership style
that is 100% perfect, but that elected or appointed political office holders
should be able to apply a particular style as at when needed. He added that the
merger of political parties is not the solution to the problem of this country.
In his words “even if this political parties merge and take over power from
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and do not apply the leadership styles properly,
the problems are bound to remain.” He mentioned some leadership style which
include domineering, negotiating, persuasive, modeling and empowering saying
that  it is  a combination of these style at the right
time and with the right people, that yields results. He noted that a leader
must be focused and that whatever style applied, the leader should not lose
sight of his or her goals.

                The
clergyman, urged political parties  to
curtail the  excesses of their  members, adding that if political office
holders live moderately, crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery and stealing
would reduce drastically. Continuing, he said “if a political office holder is
God fearing, and not materially conscious why would the unemployed graduate
entertain the thought of kidnapping the politician.”

                He
urged political office holders to be accountable to the people, adding that
they should assess themselves to see if they are living up to expectation.

                He
concluded by saying that if political parties curtail the lifestyle of their
members, the major part of the problem in this country would be solved.
