MY LIFE IS UNDER THREAT: UWEH CRIES OUT

A former State House of Assembly hopeful, in Ika North East local government area of Delta State, Mr. Dumbiri Uweh has raised alarm over an alleged threat on his life and the use of fake Economic and Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC), officials to harass and embarrass him. Mr. Uweh who spoke to newsmen in his Boji- Boji, Owa, residence, on Tuesday, December 18, 2013 said he is deeply bothered by the desperation and political gang up against him by a serving lawmaker in the area and his cohorts, adding that there had been series of plans to kidnap, kill, or destroy his properties.

In his words, “on the 21st of November, 2013, two men came to my home at No. 8 Uweh Street, Boji-Boji Owa. They asked to discuss with me privately because I was at the time of their visit in company of three friends whose names are: Mr. James Okioma, Mr. Roland Egwu and Mr. Memeh. The team leader, ASP John Idoko told me that they are friends to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for whose reason they are visiting me to inform me he has agreed to pay me my money that Sam Obi paid through him. They added that Senator Okowa asked them to see me and appeal to me to support his governorship ambition.

“ASP Idoko further said that they were coming from Asaba where they investigated Delta State Government’s role on the matter before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the police. They asked for air ticket back to Abuja and I told them I had no money. They promised to invite me to EFCC, Abuja office as the money owed was getting ready to be paid by Senator Okowa. Since then, I started getting calls from this Mr. Idoko telling me to compensate them when the money is paid.

“On the 2nd of December, 2013, Mr. Idoko called me to say that due process within EFCC office has disturbed their going to Asaba to collect vital document on my matter from the Delta State government but if I could finance their journey to Asaba with one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150, 000,) so that settlement of the matter will be fast. Believing they were security agents that meant well, I demanded their account number and bank against their demand to receive the money in cash. I paid one hundred and twenty thousand naira into the account number 2063284131, UBA Bank with account name Adagborn Patrick. Ninety thousand naira was paid on the 2nd December, 2013, while thirty thousand naira was also paid on the 3rd of December, 2013. But they complained that N120,000 will not be enongh to take care of their transportation fare and accommodation. On the 4th of December, 2013, Mr. John Idoko called me again to ask for another one hundred thousand naira, saying that the team visiting Asaba have been increased to four persons, thereby increasing cost.

“At this point I became suspicious and called the EFCC for clarification and verification because Mr. John Idoko told me that security agents handling my matter have been transferred out of Abuja. I then called one of the security agents (EFCC) I have known on this matter, Mr. Hamza to complain to him about what is happening and he told me that Mr. Idoko and his team are fake, that he is still on the matter. He asked me to send details of the so-called John Idoko and account number the money was paid into which I have done.

Speaking further, Mr. Uweh said, “on the 5th of December, 2013, Mr. Idoko called me again to inquire if I will pay the one hundred thousand naira they demanded into my account. This time, I lost my temper and called him thief on the phone. He said they are going to deal dead with me because of my position against Senator Ifeanyi Okowa especially for my petition to the Senate president against Senator Okowa. As if that was not enough, he sent these text messages to me, “I am ready for you, I will expose you” “Return that car to Delta State government and the money you stole”. They also added that they will kill me even if it cost their lives because of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa whose governorship ambition means so much to them”.

Mr. Uweh said he has sent copies of the petitions to the commissioner of police (FCID), Area 10, Abuja and the  President of the Nigeria Senate,  disclosing that the Police, SSS and EFCC are already on the matter.
