WORLD FOOD DAY CELEBRATED

AGBOR (Ika Weekly) – People all over the world celebrated World Food Day (WFD), which comes up once every year, commemoration of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

                            

The celebration of the World’s Food Day, which had it theme as ‘The Right for Food’ is designed for farmers to showcase their products.

                            

Mr. Tanko S.A.O (JP) the Zonal Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agbor zone, said that the purpose of the world food day is to heighten public awareness on the nature and dimension of the long term world food problems, And to develop further, the sense of national and international solidarity in the struggle against hunger, starvation, malnutrition and poverty.

                            

The Zonal Director, also stressed on the need for the right to food and to encourage greater attention to agricultural production in all countries in order to stimulate greater national, bilateral and multilateral trade.

                            

He said it was also to promote, at all levels of government and grassroots, policies on food issues so that people in government may have an opportunity to know how the general public views the problem of food production and also draw attention to the achievement in food and agricultural development.
