Fall in line or face the big stick – Okowa

Politicians who lost out in one political contest or the other have been urged not to allow their defeat to act as impediment to their political growth.

Giving the advice was the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Okonta while speaking at the Peoples Democratic Party (Delta North) meeting held on Saturday at Pace Hotel, Agbor.

Hon. Okonta said that if one loses position, gets disenchanted, and refused to be part of the political process, that individual is only short-changing himself, adding that contesting and losing election is not the end.  The Speaker called on the people to always rally round political office holders; ?you people should correct, advise us to make us perform better? He said.

He remarked that Delta North has never had it better as according to him ?we have the SSG, Speaker, and State PDP Chairman. It is enough for us to sink our political differences and work for the interest of the state.?

Chief Barr, Peter Nwaoboshi he said; remains the State PDP Chairman, and urged all party members to support him.

On his part, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa condemned the action of some party members who have chosen to denigrate the name of the National Leadership of the PDP, remarking that it is casting the image of the party in the state in bad light.

Dr. Okowa noted that the party is stretching its hand of fellowship and reconciliation to the aggrieved members, but noted that if they remained recalcitrant, the party will be forced too wield the ?Big Stick?.

?We will continue to respect those concerned, but if they refuse to see reason, the party will take a decision that is in its best interest. The party will continue to follow due process,? he said.

The SSG enjoined Council Chairmen to always give respect to leaders in their respective localities, advising them not to discriminate, in order to enjoy peaceful tenures and God?s blessing.

Dr. Okowa urged political office holders to work for the interest of the generality of the people. ?It is not enough to be given positions, it is what we do with such positions given to us that matter? he said.

Speaking also, PDP Delta North Chairman, Hon. Ben Obuh reiterated that Barr. Nwaoboshi remains the authentic and recognized Chairman of the PDP in the state.

At the end of the meeting, a vote of implicit confidence was passed on the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Barr. Peter Nwaoboshi.

The meeting was attended by Chief Chris Agbobu, former Minister of State Agriculture, Rear Admiral P.I. Eluma, Hon. Doris Uboh, Dr. Philip Okwuada, Chief Sunny Akpenyi, Hon. Ossai N. Ossai, Hon.
