The kidnap of an aged businessman, Mr. Jerome Atushiaka which happened on Saturday, October 24, 2009 has remained a puzzle to many as not much headway has been made to secure his release.
However, unconfirmed sources told Ika Weekly during the week that some persons have been arrested and detained by the security agents in connection with the abduction. The latter were said to be interrogating the suspects as at press time.
Meanwhile, it is very well known that the police in Owa Oyibu is said to have intensified in their wonderful manner investigation with a view to unveiling the abductors, just as top members of the Igbo community in Agbor are equally making frantic efforts to ensure the safe release of Mr. Atushiaka.
Ika Weekly had reported in its November 7, 2009 edition the abduction of the businessman by unknown gunmen.
The kidnappers who were said to be numbering about five, had, on that fateful day, trailed him to Memeh/Convent Street Junction where they forcibly abducted him after dispossessing his son and a friend who were in the same vehicle with him of N27,000 and a mobile phone.
Since the unfortunate incident, concerned individuals and groups have been making frantic efforts aimed at securing his safe release.
His family members are also said to be employing the prayer option, with all of them frequenting churches to seek the face of God for his release.
Similarly, on Saturday, October 31, 2009, co-shop owners operating under the aegis of Otu-Onyebikume-onyen, converged at their business site, located opposite First Bank, along Old Lagos/Asaba Road to specially pray for him.
As Mr. Atushiake spends three weeks in captivity as at time of filling in this report, family members had renewed their appeal to the security agents, government, traditional rulers, churches and other members of the public to join hands with them by doing everything they can, including prayers to secure his release.
