The much publicized burial ceremony of
the late Agbor-based Igbo business man, Mr. Jerome Atusiaka has suffered a setback,
as the burial rite of the business mogul has been postponed indefinitely.

Speaking to Ika Weekly just a few days before the scheduled date of burial, one
of the children of the late businessman said that in spite of the fact that all
necessary arrangements had been concluded towards a befitting burial ceremony
of his late father, which was slated between Wednesday, July 14 and Sunday,
July 18, 2010, the elders in Nkpologwu village in Aguato Local Government Area
of Anambra State has called on the family to put on hold, any plan for the
burial ceremony until some other things must have been put in place back in
the  village.

When asked if the postponement has
anything to do with the investigations into circumstances that led to the death
of his father, the son of the late businessman said that the postponement has
nothing to do with it, but that only the immediate family of the late man did
not take cognizance of some critical issues back in the village, which the
elders must sought out before commencement of the burial ceremonies. He used
the medium to let the public know that the family is indeed sorry for the
inconveniences the postponement might have caused them, saying that a few days
before the aborted date of the burial rites the family’s residence along
Ojenkpolor/Alika Street has been besieged by members of the public who were
indicating their interest to go to the village with the family for the burial
rites. He noted that many media houses have publicized the burial ceremony of
his late father and stated that it would take so much time to go back to the
press for a change of late. He however explained that the postponement will be
announced on Delta Broadcasting Radio, D B S, as well as other media houses.

It could be recalled that penultimate
week; it was published in Ika Weekly newspaper
that the body of the late business mogul, Mr. Jerome Atusiaka, alias Oyibo,
would be taken to his home town for final rest, and that all arrangements have
been made to that effect, including the purchase of burial uniforms popularly
called Aso-ebi by friends, well-wishers and members of the family. Posters, containing
burial arrangements for the burial ceremony of the late man have also been
printed and pasted almost in every corner of Orogodo metropolis. It is however
not known when the burial ceremony will now hold. But according to the son of
the late man, a new date for the burial rites will be fixed and announced as
soon as the elders in the village have held their meeting concerning the burial
ceremonies.

It will be recalled the 66 years old Mr.
Jerome Atusiaka was kidnapped on Saturday, October 24, 2009, in his car while
he was driving along Memeh /Convent Junction with one of his children and a
business associate. Few weeks later, it was reported that his body was found in
a shallow grave inside a bush between Uromi junction and Agbor-Obi, along the
new Benin-Asaba express way. Since then, the Police have waded into the matter
and the body of the late business man has been kept in the mortuary pending
when all necessary arrangements must have been concluded for a befitting burial
ceremony.
