ANGRY MOB DESTROYS N1.2M PROPERTY

AGBOR (Ika Weekly) – Property estimated at N1.2 million (one million, two hundred thousand naira) was allegedly destroyed by irate mob at Ramp Hotel, Uromi junction, Agbor recently.

         

The unfortunate incident occurred while some group of youngsters were said to be having a birthday party at the hotel, for which they hired the place. According to our source, immediately after the commencement of the party at about 11pm, some group of young men stormed the hotel and attacked those who were at the party. The source also said that it was when they started destroying properties in the hotel that one of the sales girls ran to notify the Managing Director, Mr. James Ebeye, who was already sleeping in his house which is close to the hotel.

         

The source added that the boys on sighting Mr. Ebeye pounced on him and hit him, all over his body, and caused him bodily harm, adding that the quick intervention of the police team that were on patrol near-by who came to the scene prevented further bloodshed.

         

Speaking to Ika Weekly crime reporter on the incident, Mr. James Ebeye said he was seriously brutalized by the boys, before being taken to Agbor Police Station, from where they were driven to Police Headquarters, Asaba. He disclosed that he was arrested and detained for five days along with the party organizers as he disclosed  that he and the birthday party organizers were later released when the police discovered that they had not committed any offence.

         

Mr. Ebeye listed the properties damaged to include electronics, chairs, bottles of different brands of drinks, tables, bore-hole pipes, doors, 4 wall mirrors, and the musical instruments used by the organizers of the birthday party; all valued at N1.2 million.

         

He stated that he had to petition the Delta State Police Commissioner who on receiving his complaint ordered the arrest of those involved in the alleged attack on his hotel. However, they were later released on bail with a promise to compensate him for the losses incurred.

         

Mr. Ebeye who is also the Managing Director of Abbasson Nigeria Limited and Banco Water Supply both in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, stated that while the matter was still pending, the same group of boys attacked his first son, Mr. Edison Ebeye, and inflicted serious injuries on him. He disclosed that since that incident, he has not seen his son.

         

He revealed that on his way to report the matter to the Police, he was attacked again by the same group, making it the third time in less than a month, adding that injuries were inflicted on him and his brother, Mr. Victor Mgbako.

         

Mr. Ebeye therefore called on His Royal Majesty, Keagborekuzi 1, to wade into the matter so as to restore sanity in Agbor Kingdom, which is being desecrated by the actions of these hoodlums.

         

He also pleaded with the Commissioner of Police to urgently put measures in place to arrest the ugly development that is bringing bad name to Ika South.
