BRIDGE COLLAPSE: PRESS RELEASE BY IKA LANDLORDS ASSOC…. WE ARE DISAPPOINTED

  A non-political and apex pressure
group in Ika land, generally known as the Ika landlords/landladies Association
has expressed disappointment over the sudden collapse of the temporary  Orogodo River by-pass bridge which
occurred  last week Saturday night. The
association arising from an  emergency
meeting held on  Tuesday, 12 October,
2010, at Boji-Boji Owa, also expressed their anger and grievance over the slow
pace of work on the old Lagos/Asaba road, the shabby construction of the
Orogodo bridge and the total negligence of government  projects in Ika land.

In a statement released to the press
after the meeting and was signed by its president the association resolved
thus:

1.       Ika Landlords/Landladies Association is
very angry over the collapse of the temporary Orogodo river by pass bridge, the
slow pace of work and the shabby handling and total negligence of government
projects in Ika land. This  is a serious
show of incompetence on the part of the contractor which underscores the
association’s protests.

2.       We totally frown at, and at the same time
condemn completely the way and manner the Delta State government is handling
all projects in Ika land including many abandoned streets projects, dregging of
Orogodo river and dualization of old Lagos Asaba road.

3.        We
also condemn the non challant attitude of the contracting firm Hi-Tech
Engineering for falling to provide ameliorative measure for road users of the
Old Lagos/Asaba road especially the non-filling of the pot holes and gullies on
the road, which have now become death traps to motorists and inhabitants of
Ika  nation. That is to say, from what they
are doing, that if it takes state government
fifty years  to construct the new
bridge, for the fifty years, the road will not be motorable.

4.        We
equally condemn a situation were the collapsed of Orogodo by pass bridge as
forced many people, especially students and workers to pass through the ever
busy new lagos asaba road express way to go to their school and offices,
thereby exposing them to accident. We use the opportunity  to commiserate with parent whose children/wards
have been reported dead or injured through road accident in the high way.

In a related development, the association while
reminding the Delta State governor, His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Ewete Uduaghan
of his promised during their meeting with him at Asaba on Monday 21st,
June, 2010, where he assured on the completion to specification and
commissioning of all governmental projects in Ika land, vowed not to relent in
their struggle until all abandoned government projects in the area are
completed to satisfaction “ We are therefore, requesting the Delta State
Government as a matter of urgency to address the aforementioned issues on all
infrastructures in Ika land by embarking on serious works on them, otherwise,
it will lead to the third phase of our protest, just as we are prepared  this time not to tolerate any form of
negligence in our land. We equally use this opportunity to angrily call on all
elective appointed Ika sons and daughters in federal, state and local  government to resign their appointments, for
they have failed Ika nation” they said
