In an effort to
contribute to the improvement of the sanitary condition of Ika North East Local
Government a group known as “Love Your Neighbour As Yourself” on Thursday, 30th
May, 2013, embarked on sanitation exercise along Convent and Dorothy Streets,
in Boji-Boji, Owa.

                The exercise which attracted
every member of the association, commenced at about 8am and lasted till 10am.
Gutters were cleared and potholes filled to make the roads motorable.

                Speaking with Ika Weekly, the
Chairman of the group, Comrade Lucky Udu Ottah said, they decided to carry out
the sanitation exercise as part of their civic responsibilities, and to also
improve on the sanitary condition of the environment.

He noted that the drainages were
blocked and was hindering the free flow of water, adding that their efforts
would help in opening the water ways for free flow of water whenever it rains.
He said it would also enhance the beauty of the area and positively affect the
health of residents and those who do business around the vicinity.

                Comrade Ottah said filling the
many pot holes on the roads, would aid free flow of vehicular and human
traffic, as the pot holes cause traffic hold up especially during rush hours in
the mornings and at the close of work.

He called on the local and state
government, as well as resident of the local government area to assist in
keeping the environment clean at all time. He also urged the authorities to tar
the roads to make it more accessible.

On his part, the Secretary of
the association, Mr. Jonathan Nnaji solicited the assistance of the government
in the provision of waste bins at strategic locations in the local government
for the evacuation of refuse.

                He equally called for the
rehabilitation of Dorothy streets, and other deplorable roads in the area,
saying when rehabilitated, it would go a long way in easing movement.
