BOOK LAUNCH: David EBOH launches a book – "Healthcare Strategic Management in Africa – Principle of Collaborative Leadership”

The
General Secretary of the Ika Union of Great Britain and Ireland, Mr.
David EBOH, has launched a book,” Healthcare Strategic Management
in Africa – Principle of Collaborative Leadership”
The
Launching took place at the Lecture Theatre of
the University of Greenwich in South London on April 24, 2014.The
occasion was presided over by a representative of the High
Commissioner of Nigeria in the Court of St. James’s, His
Excellency Dr. Dalhatu Tafida, Sarki Zazzau. The representatative,
Prince Tajudeen Gbadebo Adeniyi was Personal Assistant to the High
Commissioner who could not attend, on account of other engagements.

Prince Adeniyi
called on Nigerians and other Africans to emulate the initiative of
David Ebon in order to advise the Nigerian and other African
Governments. He observed that African Professionals in the
Diaspora, were going back home after their sojourn abroad and urged
African Governments to find a way to use their resources in order to
set up Healthcare facilities as David had pointed out in his book.

It was his opinion
that if the Nigerian Government and those of other African countries
could synergise with professionals such as David, Nigeria and other
African countries could be transformed to look as good as Dubai.
He also urged members of the audience “to take a copy of the book
and another to another friend”

According to
Ambassador Eric Toney
AWORABHI, Nigeria’s Ambassador in Rome, Italy, in his “FORWARD”
to the book, said the book had attempted to capture an overview of
the healthcare delivery system in Africa and had contrasted it with
what was obtainable in the advanced countries of the world.
He
described
the author as someone who had been moulded in rural,
under-enlightened environment, broadly educated at home and abroad
and had interacted in a cosmopolitan milieu.

David Eboh, son of
Lazarus
Ukah and Janet Ujeh Eboh, hailed from Mbiri, in the Ika Northeast
Local Government Area of Delta State. He attended the Ngala Primary
School, Boji-Boji, Owa, Delta State and the Ekuku Agbor Grammar
School, Ekuku Agbor, in the Ika South Local Government Area of delta
State, before proceeding to the University of Benin, University of
Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH), School of Nursing, in Benin, capital
City of Edo State.

He then left
Nigeria and did a stint at the Sports
Medical Hospital in Saudi Arabia. He relocated to the United Kingdom
in 1992 and has since acquired a string of academic accolades. At the
same time, he has found the time to engage in Community life, having
been a School Governor of St. Peter’s School, Woolwich, South
London and the President of the Nigerian association of Health
Service Managers and Consultants (NAHSMAC). He is also the
indomitable General Secretary of the Ika Union of Great Britain and
Ireland, based in London and has transformed the union’s
secretariat with a great aplomb. He is married to Anthonia Eboh, (nee
Nwabueze) and they have three children.

The Book was reviewed by a
Nigerian, Dr. Omorogieva Ojo who is a Senior Lecturer, Primary Care
Department (Acute and Continuing care), of the University of
Greenwich.

Apart from a vast
number of Nigerians who attended the Launching, other dignitaries
included His Excellency, Edward M Turay, Sierra Leone High
commissioner in London,His Excellency, Bernard Sande,Malawi High
Commissioner in London and His Excellency, Peter Kalaghe, High
Commissioner of Tanzania in London.

Prince Adeniyi of
the Nigerian High Commission
bought the highest number of copies of the book for the High
Commission’s Library.

Mr. Iffy Onwukegu,
treasurer of the Ika Union of Great Britain and Ireland, bought a
copy of the Book for the Union while the Reverend John Ohen and Mrs.
Grace Igbinedion, members of the Union, bought copies, to encourage
David’s efforts. Mrs. Bisi Nwaeke, wife of the recently deceased
president of the Union, was also present at the launching.

Guests were later
entertained to a variety of delicious Nigerian dishes at the end of
the evening.
