A report from Ika Federal Constituency said that when the physically challenged persons heard that the Honourable lawmaker was in town, they gathered themselves at the early hours of Tuesday and went to the Constituency Office and barricaded the entrance, after locking the main gate leading to the office.

The report further said that as she and her entourage arrived at the gate, the physically challenged persons, including crippled, blind deaf and maimed, refused them entry until their demands were met. He said what the members of the group need is financial empowerment to enable them stand on their own.

The Secretary of the Association of Physically Challenged Persons in the area, Mr. T. Anthony said they were at the constituency office to draw the attention of the Hon. Lawmaker to their plight.

He remarked that when they met Hon. Engr. Uboh some time ago, she promised to help them but since then, nothing has been done, adding that they had requested financial empowerment to enable them stand on their own.

Addressing the crowd after she has been able to calm them down, Hon. Uboh advised them to approach their grievances with caution as she said that nothing could be achieved through violence and bad behaviour.

Presenting them with undisclosed sum of money, Hon. Uboh promised to established Skill Acquisition Centres within the Ika Federal Constituency in which members of the group will be incorporated to learn different trades and thereafter, be empowered to be able to stand on their own.

Hon. Uboh disclosed that all the constituency projects she initiated since assuming office are nearing completion, adding that when they are completed they would all be commissioned at the same time in the first week of July, 2008.

She pointed out that she executed 16 projects in one year, for the purpose of assisting her in attending to the needs of Ika Federal Constituency, which seem to have relapsed into inaction. Hon. Uboh stressed that the project committee is fully on stream but that what informed the seeming inaction was the need for members to attend to other political matters, especially the last PDP Congress and Local Government election, adding that they are fully back now.

On the Boji-Boji, Orogodo erosion control project, the Lawmaker noted that the contractor handling the job is doing well, pointing out that dredging is not something that is done in a hurry.

Hon. Uboh said that the Old Lagos/Road is no more a federal, but a state road, stating that she believes that the state government will attend to it at the right time. She further stated that the Uduaghan?s administration should be given time to attend to the needs of the people gradually, and enjoined the people of Ika Nation to continue to contribute their quotas for the betterment of the community.
