The Progressive League, a socio-political group has been born at Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area with the mandate to chart a new course for the community and its environs.
This was disclosed by the president, Barr. M.C. Okorie (Esq) on behalf of the body on Sunday 24th May 2009 in an interactive session with Ika Weekly at Umunede. He further disclosed that with time, the league will extend its activities to other parts of Ika land.
Barr. M.C. Okorie said that the group is made of intellectuals and personalities who have sound political ideology. Listing the executive members as Barr. M.C. Okorie Esq as President, Barr. C.S. Ebite Esq. as Secretary-General, and Hon. Alex Mekunye as Treasurer, he said.
Other executive members include, Mr. Mike Omiefe, Mr. S.N. Okorie, Mr. Linus Bienose, Mr. Ifeanyi Iduh and a host of others. The group, he asserted, will carry out sensitization campaigns to enlighten the people about the league and its course for political reorientation and education.
He also said that the door is open for membership to those who are politically innovative and adaptable as well as people who have foresight.
Barr. Okorie gave kudos to the traditional ruler of Umunede Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Agadagidi Ezenwali Ezeagwu (JP) for the quality leadership he has been giving to his people since he ascended the throne, praying God to give the Obi more wisdom in carrying out his onerous task of leading the people.
He also used the opportunity to express his gratitude to all political office holders in Ika nation and urged them to embark on more people-oriented programmes.
