HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENT SET TO INVITE EFCC OVER COUNCIL WORKERS SALARIES

The Human Right Restoration Movement, HRRM, a body that is aimed, amongst other things, at restoring the rights of the citizens of the country, which national headquarters is situated along Memeh Street, Boji Boji, Owa in Ika North East Local Government Area has vowed to invite the Police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the Financial position of Ika South Local Government Area Council currently under the leadership of Hon. Hilary Ibude.

In a letter addressed to the chairman of Ika South Local Government Hon. Hilary Ibude, which was copied to the Ika South NULGE Chairman Comrade Marcus Ugbaja and presented to Ika Weekly on Thursday, August 18, 2009, which was signed by the National chairman and its Secretary, Comrade (Barr.) I.W. Agholor PNM and Comrade M.C. Eboka respectively, the Movement noted, with deep concern, the industrial action that was embarked upon by the Ika South Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, recently. The letter reads in part, that ?upon the industrial strike embarked upon by your staff, the Movement set up a 3-man committee to investigate the remote cause of the industrial strike. In the course of our investigation, the Movement was reliably informed that the workers have not been paid for the past four (4) months and were left without any option than to embark on the industrial strike.?

It also revealed that ?it is a known fact that the appropriation publications released by the Federal Ministry of Finance every months as federal allocation attests to the fact that money has been sent to run the council, which include payment of wages and incidental bills. However, in spite of this money released by the Federal Ministry of Finance and internally generated revenue, it beats our imagination that till date, you are not unable to pay workers? salary inspite of the allocation received from federated account.?

The movement therefore demanded for a comprehensive report to include the money that was received by the council from the Federation Account, the report of internally generated revenue, money expended by the way of projects and also money expended for wages and other incidental expenses including bills.
