A Philanthropist and People Democratic Party Chieftain in Ika North east local government area, Mr. Azubuike Dada Ijeh has donated books worth millions of naira to schools in the council area. The books presentation took place at his private residence along Convent Street, Boji-Boji, Owa, on Tuesday September, 28, 2010.
Handing over the books, to representatives of the benefitting schools, Mr.Ijeh said it was his own modest contribution to educational advancement in Ika North east and the State. He said that he was particularly moved to import the books and donate them to schools because of his love for education, adding that it is the only enduring legacy "we can bequeath to our children and also the fact that there is acute shortageof relevant textbooks on different subjects in public schools."
Mr. Ijeh, who is an aspirant for the House of Assembly in the LGA disclosed that six years ago, he made similar donation which the public was not aware of. He said he decided to personally hand them over to the various schools as a way of encouraging other well meaning Ika sons and daughters, who are well disposed, to support "the education and learning process of our children. It is a responsibility and duty that should not be left for government alone. We all should join hands to restore the lost glory of our educational sector."
He promised to do more and charged the benefitting schools to make good use of the books which he said are of high standard and will be profitable to students and teachers.
Responding on behalf of the schools, Venerable OmoOkunbor of Ika Grammar School, Boji-Boji, Owa, thanked Mr. Ijeh for the gesture which he noted will go a long way in addressing the paucity of relevant texts on different subject in schools across the state. He commended the donor saying that he has brought succor to students in the LGA.
We are very grateful to you, for what you have done and we pray with God will give you more grace and enablement to do more for our children." He said.
