The
rising number of cases on the  kidnap of
little children in Ika land particularly, Ika North East Local Government Area
is becoming worrisome to many residents of the area, as  they now sleep with one eye opened having fears
that the dreaded unknown kidnappers might break into their house at any time.

Communities
like Igbodo and Ekwuoma, all in Ika North East Local Government Area has
experienced the cases of kidnapping of babies more than two times.

It
could be berrecalled that case of missing babies was first reported at Igbodo
on 22nd May, 2010. This was closely followed by another one that
happened at the same Igbodo on 20th June, 2010. The people of
Akumazi kingdom began to suffer the same thing this year (kidnapping of babies)
on 11th August, 2010, when a ten day old baby was reported missing
at Idumu-Obi quarters. This was different from a similar one that recurred on
17th December, 2009 at OdugaUzugbo.

However,
the most recent cases of child kidnapping were recorded at Ekwuoma. The first
case was reported three week ago at Idumu-Ute in  Ekwuoma. While the second one happened on 18th
October, 2010, at Ekeze, all in Ekwoma.

By and
Large, this ugly incident requires urgent attention from the security agents,
the government, community leaders, concerned individuals and non-governmental
agencies. All hands must be on deck to stop this inhuman treatment that is
currently growing wings everyday in Ika land. Security measures should be put
in place to ensure that the  issue  of child kidnapping is totally laid to rest.
