Uromi Junction axis of the new Benin-Asaba expressway to clear the debries that
was occasioned by an early morning accident.According to the
Chairman of the Uromi unit in the Chapter, Comrade Christopher Ogala, the
accident occurred in the night of Sunday, Febuary 6, 2011, when Dangote truck,
loaded with some building materials was decending the slope between the College
of Education Junction and Uromi Junction. It was gathered that the long vehicle marked XB 41KZR, was speeding
down the slope as a result of brake failure, and subsequently crossed the
express road, ramming into the concrete barricades that democate the lanes and
also crashing into some campaign bill boards that were erected in the opposite side of the road. It was further gathered that the
Dangote truck that was involved in the accident was badly damaged in the front. However, no life
was reportedly lost in the road mishap.
Com. Igumbor stated
that when he noticed that the debris on the expressway was becoming an
impediment to free flow of vehicles, he quickly called a meeting of the drivers
within Ika South, including their unit chairmen, to see how the road could be
cleared, in order to avoid another accident. “We are carrying out this work
purely on humanitarian basis; in order to avoid any other accident. We thank
God that no life was lost in this accident. Let me thank my people also, for
coming out to do this work. We do not have to wait for F.R.S.C to come before we do it, because we
are partners in progress,” he noted.The Ika South road
transport Chairman also used the
opportunity to caution all road users, especially drivers, to use the roads carefully
in order to avoid accident.
