The
appeal was made on the occasion of the “flagging off” ceremony of the 1st round
of the 2013 National Immunization plus days (NIPDS) at Ime Obi Primary Health
Center (PHC), Agbor.
Engr.
Obiazi stated that the government is committed to the eradication of polio
myleitis and other preventable childhood diseases which the exercise is aimed
at achieving and have come to save parents and their children from the agony of
paralysis and death caused by the complications of these infections.
The
council boss stressed that Immunization is a proven tool for controlling and
eliminating life threatening infectious diseases and is estimated to avert between two (2), and
three (3) million deaths each year saying that it is -one of the most cost
effective health investments with proven strategies that make it accessible to
even the most hard to reach and vulnerable population.
Earlier
in her brief speech, the state technical facilitator, Mrs. Naomi Ogbakpa said
that the overall objective of Immunizations plus days (IPDS) is to prevent the
transmission of wild polio virus in Nigeria.
