Members of
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), under Anti Corruption Community
Development Service (CDS), in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State,
in partnership with Junior Chambers International Nigeria (JCI) on 18th May,
2013 inducted students from various secondary schools in Ika land into the anti
corruption integrated group with the aim of bringing brighter future for the
people of Delta State .
Speaking in an opening remark.
Hon. Vincent Agboregbulem representing the Ika South Council boss, Engr. Andrew
Obiazi thanked the corp members for their initiatives. He noted that the
programme is a nice one that will help in curbing economic vices in the local
government, Delta State and Nigeria at large. He stressed that efforts needed
to be put together in other to make Ika South Local Government and Nigeria a
better place.
Also speaking, the NYSC local
government inspector. Mr. Egiator described corruption as inimical to the
progress of Nigeria. He charged the students to keep their minds focused as
they will be continually trained on how to fight economic vices.
The guest speaker and the CEO of
Emobella Engineering Nigeria ltd, Mr.
Precious E.O. Adeho, while admonishing the youths and the students spoke on
“Human capital development, as one of the major way to combating economic
vices”. He noted that there are social vices like rape, kidnapping, robbery and
many others which is not good for the society
He said “if Nigeria must change,
you and I need to stand up and do something to make the nation strong.
He enjoined the youths to
acquire entrepreneurship skills. He
thanked the corp members for the privilege given to him and also advised the
secondary school students to abstain from examination malpractices and read
their books.
Inducting the students into Anti
Corruption Integrated Group, they vowed to be honest and upright in all public
and private life, to promote integrity and actively participate in the anti
corruption crusade to fight economic and
financial crime in Nigeria.
The CDS President, corper Okpala
Chioma C.J thanked all that graced the occasion, and also appreciated God for
making the programme successful.
She said that if all hands are
joined together to fight crime, the country will be peaceful.
According to her, “the world
today is full of corruption but in as much as we can touch the heart of a child
positively, he or she will in turn touch the heart of his or her friends, and
by so doing, corruption will be reduced to the bearest mimum” which has led
them to induct students in Ika land to help fight corruption in what ever ways
they can in their immediate environment. She lauded her group members for their
team work and prayed God to grant all of them long life and prosperity.
Speaking with Ika Weekly, Hon.
Smart Dibie, supervisory councilor for Health,
Ika South, commended the corpers and Mr. Precious Adeho for educating
youths in Ika land. He advised the newly inducted students to be focused and
also take their studies seriously. He also charged them to see their call as a
service to humanity and to be prepared for the challenges ahead of them. He
noted that the programme is a welcome idea to the development for the Ika South
.
