A 92 year-old community leader was on Tuesday allegedly burnt to death by his grandson in his room at his hometown, Owa-Oyibu, Ika North East Local Government Area.
The old man whose name was given as Mr. Mekwuye Iwebon the Okparauku of Idumu Ogin, Ime-Oyibu quarters was said to be mourning his son, late Mr. Ephraim Iwebon who died after a brief illness when his grandson whose name was not immediately available came in with a gallon of fuel at about 10 am on that ill-fated day, poured it in his grandfather, late Mr. Iwebon, and all over the room and set the room on fire and locked the door against the old man.
The Okparauku who screamed for help for a long time before sympathizers came to his rescue, said, his grandson accused him of killing his own father, Mr. Ephraim Iwebon through diabolical means, telling him that he will equally die.
He was rushed to the hospital, but before any medical treatment could be given, the Okparauku gave up the ghost.
According to the family source, late Mr. Ephraim Mekwuye who was a welder in Boji-Boji Owa, and his late father were leaving together before the tragic event. A report from Owa-Oyibu said the police in Ika North East are currently investigating the matter, as the suspected arsonist was said to have fled the area.
