IKA INDIGENE PROFESSED A MONK

IKA WEEKLY – Members of St. Dominic Catholic Church Boji-Boji Owa and St. Mary’s Catholic Church Abavo converged in large number to felicitate with Osih family of Udomi-Abavo Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State when their son, Brother Justin Chinedu Osih, OSB, took the monastic vow as a Monk at St Benedict Monastry Ewu Esan, Edo State, last Saturday. 

                            

The solemn monastic profession which was presided over by the Acting Superior of the Monastry, Rev. Fr. Joseph Udoh Udoh featured the celebration of Holy mass, professional rites and entertainments of guests.

                            

On the whole three members of the Benedictine community made their religious vows to forgo the things of the world and live for Christ. They include Brother Bernard Marcha from Plateau Province in Koji State, and Brother Godfrey Chike Uzor of Abakaliki Province, Ebonyi State, both of  who made vow to keep the rules of St Benedict for three years, while Justin Osih made solemn rite of Profession, to keep the rules of St Benedict for life.   

                            

In answer to a question put to him before the final right, Brother Justin Osih declared “I am prepared to live for God alone” throughout my life.

                            

Immediately after this pronouncent, Justin was made to lie down on a mat covered with white clothe and declared dead in sin.  

                            

In his concluding prayers of the end of the ceremony Rev. Fr. Joseph Udoh Udoh prayed to God to protect, guide and strengthen the monk and other members of Benedictine community to be able to carry their cross and follow Christ throughout their lives and to be with the creator at the end of the race.
