AGBOR (Ika Weekly) – Social and Commercial activities have remained at stands till for more than three weeks along Baleke Street and its environs as a result of blackout in the said area.
The blackout according to reports was due to the vandalization of the transformer sited at Baleke/Osuhon junction which supplies electricity to the people in the area.
Speaking with one of the businessmen, who spoke under anonymity, said he arrived his shop one morning only to be told that some hoodlums came at night to pilfer some parts of the transformer
He further disclosed that they have reported the incident to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) authority, but that nothing has been done to remedy the situation.
Another resident of the area, Deacon Daniel Adagbon, an electrician who spoke to Ika Weekly decried the plight of the residents of the area especially those who make use of electricity for their jobs.
Deacon Adagbon appealed to PHCN authority to come to their aid since they cannot operate effectively without power, adding that the cost of fuelling generator is exhorbitant.
Ika Weekly gathered that the affected areas include, Baleke, Osuhon, Odozi, Iregwa, Okubor, Aghakun, Queen, Upper Queen, Street, Upper Queen Lane, Mgbeken and part of Azehan Streets.
