The race to the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly come 2011 has assumed an interesting dimension as two prominent political gladiators of Ika nation have confirmed their interest for the seat.
The two politicians, Dr, Ifeanyi Okowa, Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG) and Dr Cairo Ojougboh Presidential Liason Officer to the Senate, in separate interviews with newsmen over the weekend confirmed rumours making rounds that they were eyeing the senatorial seat.
Dr. Ojougboh who spoke at Obior affirmed his interest and desire to represent Delta North Senatorial District in the forth coming political dispensation. “It is my humble wish to represent the good people of Delta North as their senator so that the long years of poor representation of the zone will end for the better” he stated.
He listed as credentials and advantages working to his favour to include experience as a former member of the House of Representative and currently Senate Presidential Liason Officer. “ As a former member of the House of Representative and currently Senate Presidential Liason Officer, I am in a vantage position to effectively represent Delta North senatorial District also popular followership as well as consistency in championing the people’s course will be an advantage for me clinching the seat,” he stated.
Dr. Okowa on his part while speaking to Newsmen at the Cenotaph, Asaba during the grand reception by Izu Anioma for Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan believes that his giant strides as a Local Government Council Chairman, Commissioner of Health and Water Resources as well as Secretary to State Government will help me in the race. “By the special grace of the Almighty God, in my humble role as a Local Council Chairman, Civil commissioner, SSG. I have impacted on people’s lives by providing them with the needed infrastructural development which today is a testimony to what I will do for the Delta North Senatorial zone in the next republic” he stated.
On what motivated him to seek for the position, Dr. Okowa said that “numerous pressures from the constituency and political associates made me to enter the race for the Senate come 2011 and by God’s grace, I will emerge victorious” he said.
Other politicians believed to be eyeing the seat are Dr. Mariam Alli and incumbent Senator, Patrick Osakwe.
