At Ibusa and Asaba, the senatorial aspirant, and his
entourage were received by Peoples Democratic Party, LGA and ward executives,
with massive support from party faithful.
Addressing the large gatherings at both local
government areas, Dr. Okowa said he was offering himself as Senator to
represent Delta North, to bring about the much needed development and to also
enhance unity of purpose for the area.
“I hope to speak for the people of Anioma both at the
national and state levels. Even at the international level, to attract
attention to the area. I am not offering myself as a leader. I do not want to
be a Senator-leader. I am rather offering myself for selfless service for my
people. I am going to Abuja
with the power of your votes and not the power of money. I will do that which I
need to do but I will do all I can, to make everybody a friend, when I get
there, to be able to attract development to my people. I will employ my energy
and vast experience in government, to enhance the place of Anioma in the scheme
of things,” he told the party executives.
Dr. Okowa who stressed that the time has come for a
new beginning for Anioma people, noted that “collectively, we can transform the
Anioma race and entrench sustainable
development” but pointed out that, that can only be achieved when there is a
rallying point for the people, adding that “every 3 months, I will have
constituency meetings with all party leaders and representatives in government,
at various levels, in Delta North. Such consultations and meetings are very
important, as they will go a long way in identifying the needs of the people
and pursing them vigorously.”
The SSG who expressed his appreciation for the massive
turn-out of the people of both local government areas said that it was the
support of the people of Delta North that has contributed to his occupying many
high profile appointed offices, where he said he did his best to serve the
state, and in the process acquired a lot of experience that will come handy in
the discharge of his duties as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, when
voted into office.
“The position of a senator requires experience and so
I am seeking for your support and approval to represent you at Abuja. Anioma
needs the senator who will speak for them. Our people do not need somebody who
will go there to represent himself and not the people. I offer myself to do
that” he told the large gathering that included LGA and ward executives.
