A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform
of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, has raised an alarm
over threat to his life. He made the revealation while speaking to Ika Weekly
on Thursday, July 23, 2010 at his family residence along Alisimie road
Ogbeisogban, Ime-Obi.

Mr. Okoh who is popularly known as Chuky Dandy
disclosed that in the last few months since he made his intention to vie for
the position of a Federal Legislator public, he has been inundated with
anonymous telephone calls,  with private
numbers, threatening to kill him if he refuses to let go his political
ambition.

“I am speaking to the press today, to bring to the notice
of members of Ika community what has been happening to me, since I declared my
intention to run for the House of Representatives, to represent Ika federal
constituency at The National Assembly. For sometime now, I have been receiving
series of phone calls where some anonymous persons have been asking me to
jettison my political interest and pursuit. These faceless individuals are
asking me to abandoned my aspiration or they will eliminate me. I have however,
reported the matter to the Delta State commissioner of police  who has detailed 2 Police Officers to me,” he
explained.

Mr. Okoh, who is also widely known for his
philanthropic disposition however vowed that he would not step down for any
reason, as his foray into politics and subsequent decision to run for the House
of Representatives was informed by the strong desire to contribute meaningfully
to the development of Ika land and
empowerment of the people, who he observed have been left in the lurch
for so many years. “Whoever that  is
trying to stampede me out of this political race will never succeed because my
mission is altruistic. I am not in it for selfish interest and gain. My primary
concern is to contribute to the upliftment of Ika nation, if given the mandate,
to represent my people at Abuja. So I am sounding a warning to those behind the
conspiracy to desist as politics is not a
do or die enterprise.  The
electorate should be allowed to elect whoever they  prefer. If it is me, fine,  if they chose somebody else, I will be
willing and ready to work with such individual. It is all about the good of Ika
land. That is what is important. I am not in contention with anybody. Politics
should be seen as an avenue to improve the living standard of our people,” he
stated.

The House of Representatives aspirant who said that
he is not enjoying the kind of life he is currently living; having policemen
follow him wherever he goes, as it affect his free movement, said that he has
no choice but to have security around himself. He stressed that there was the
need to have credible people occupy public office, so that Ika people can
benefit from the dividends of democracy.

He assured his teeming supporters that he will
remain faithful to his political dreams, vision and aspiration, promising that
he will not be cowed into submission by those he reffered to as political
cowards, and are probably afraid for an open contest. “I will not be
intimidated into submission. I have declared my intention, let those concern
face their business as I am doing mine. I am ready to serve my people. I am not
asking anybody to give way for me. The race is open to anybody that is
interested.

On whether he is suspecting anybody, Mr. Okoh said
no but was quick to state that “if the person is bold enough, he should stop
calling with private numbers rather he should come out plain, so that he knows
that jungle contains those who hunt for the hunter.”
