The people of Alifekede Community in Ika South Local Government Area recently were in a joyful mood when the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Hillary Ibude visited the area, to commission a health centre that was built by an illustrious son of Alifekede, Mr Steve Ikpade
Commending the efforts of the donor, Hon. Ibude said that the issue of health care is paramount in the life of the people, considering the fact that "health is wealth." He promised the people of the community that Alifekede will be placed first on his priority list because they have assisted the government in the self help project.
The Council Chairman assured the people of the community that nurses and other health personnels will be posted to the health centre for immediate take off. He promised to provide hospital equipments and a brand new transformer to replace the stolen one. He also called on well-meaning individuals from other communities to emulate the kind gesture of Mr. Steve Ikpade.
In an address presented earlier by the Secretary of the community, Mr. Godwin Onwubuya, on behalf of the community, he said that the building of the health centre was borne out of the long pain of the people of the community who have been traveling long distances in search of medical attention, especially women under labour who have to walk or ride on motorbikes in search of health centers to deliver their babies.
The Community Secretary thanked the Council boss for grading their roads which he said, have not been graded for over 30 years. He also appealed to the Chairman to assist the community in renovating the market stalls that are dilapidated and are no longer in use. He solicited for the employment of Alifekede youths in the council and procurement of a transformer, which the council Chairman has promised to provide them. Mr. Onwubuya appealed to the Chairman to help the community towards checking the problems of erosion in the area by using the Councils earth moving equipment to construct and maintain drainage systems in the community.
He implored the Chairman to see that the cleaners and security men that are to be posited to the health centre are indigenes of the community.
