TRAGEDY! DOWNPOUR CLAIMS LIFE OF 30 YEAR OLD CHRISTIAN MORDI – Ika Weekly

The Sunday, August 11, 2018, heavy downpour in Boji-Boji Owa, has claimed the life of a 30 year old man, Mr. Christian Mordi, a native of Idumugbo Quarters in Ute-Okpu, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Late Christian, according to an eye-witness, was dancing in the rain, entertaining everybody at a burial ceremony along Obaigbena by Dorathy Street for more than two hours before proceeding to Morka Street by Baptist Mission to continue his dance, when he met his untimely death.

Ika Weekly Reporter also gathered from a source who pleaded anonymity that when Christian came to the junction during the downpour, he started dancing and people were watching and enjoying the entertainment. The source disclosed that while he was doing that, the 10 feet drainage at Baptist Mission was already filled with water which was flowing in high current from uptown to Orogodo River.
“We tried all we could to stop him, but he refused. Then, all of a sudden, he tripped and fell into the drainage and that was how he died”.

Mrs. Theresa Mordi, the deceased aged mother described Christian   as a humble and obedient child. She prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.

Ika residents at the scene commended the Chairman, Ika NorthEast Local Government Council, Hon. Barr. Victor Eghen Ebonka, who helped in taking the corpse to the mortuary. The Chairman, in his remark, advised the residents, particularly children to always stay indoors whenever it is raining to avoid such sad occurrence
