OVIA FAMILY IMMORTALIZES GRAND MUM

IKA WEEKLY – A family Hall built in honour of one of the oldest women in Agbor-kingdom, Mama Oromolulu Ovia, grandmother of the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank International Plc, Mr. Jim O. Ovia has been commissioned.

                            

The ceremony which took place at No.12, Ebegboni Street, Ogbemudein Ime-Obi Agbor, Delta State attracted large crowd of Ovia family as well as friends and well wishers.

                            

Performing the official opening at an impressive ceremony, the chairman of the family Union, Mr. Lawrence Monday Ofieh said the building of the Hall which was financed by Mr. Jim Ovia was in fulfillment of a request made by Mama Oromolulu Ovia who was born in 1870 and died on 12th September 1988, who ordered that her family House be preserved as a meeting pointing of her children.

                            

He described late Mama Oromolulu Ovia as a social figure, hardworking and a caring mother of her time and appealed to the family members to build on the enviable legacy left behind by their grand and great-grand mother.

                            

Mr. Ofieh paid glowing tribute to Mr. Jim Ovia for financing the project as he also expressed thanks to Chief C.C. Aluka, Mr. Jim Ovia’s brother, for executing the project without delay.

                            

Present at the occasion were Mrs. Mary Ibude, head of Mama Oromolulu grand children, Mr. Broderick Onyibe Mrs. Angelina Odiase eldest sister of Mr. Jim Ovia, Chief  Chris Chukwukanmadu. Aluka, who executed the project, Mr. Sunday Nzemeke Ovia, Acting Iteruma of Agbor, Chief J.E. Ochei, the Odion of Agbor, Chief J.C. Monye, the Ojoto of Agbor, Mr. Mike Ebede, Prince F. Iwerinwa Obika, Chief S. Iyawa, Deinyem of Agbor, prince John Obika and Mr. J.A Ehiabor.

                            

Others include His Worship, F.I. Dike, Chief magistrate in Delta State, Mr. Patrick, Police Officer in charge of Motor Traffic Division, Nigeria Police Station Agbor-Obi, Mr. Obinna Eze, lecturer, College of Education, Agbor, Mr. Akenya Emmanuel, Direct Labour Agency, Agbor, Mr. Ikenchukwu Onyarin, Ex-military Officer, Mr. S. Giweze and Mr. Pat Ojei, master of ceremony.

                            

Speaking on behalf of Ogbemudein community, the Odion of Agbor kingdom Chief J.E. Ochei, commended Mr. Jim Ovia for financing the project, describing him as a man whose philanthropic gestures have touched the lives of many people in Nigeria.

                            

While calling for the establishment of a business and skill acquisition centre in the commissioned Hall, Chief Ochei appealed to Mr. Ovia to assist in extending the services of the borehole project which he established for Agbor community some years ago to Ogbemudein community.

                            

He also called on the business giant (Jim Ovia) to ensure that students of Ogbemudein community benefit from his annual scholarship award as a way of enhancing education and development in the area.

                            

Chief Chris Chukwukamadu Aluka, who executed the project commended Mr. Jim Ovia for the development stride he has brought to Agbor kingdom, and other places in Nigeria. 

                            
Chief Aluka who is also the managing Director of C.C.A. Limited said Mr. Ovia would have loved to be present at the ceremony but for the pressure of official assignments and expressed thanks to the children of Ovia and Mama Oromolulu as well as his friends and business associates for making the occasion a huge success.
