All work and no play, they say, makes Jack a dull boy. So it was when the entire students of the College of Education, Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area held their Students Week. The celebration began on Monday July 20, 2009 with the degree students of the college, while the National Certificate of Education, NCE, students also held their week, beginning from Wednesday July 22, 2009.

Speaking on an interactive session with Ika Weekly, the President, Students Union Government SUG, Comrade Orunwa Samuel of the Department of Economics and Computer Science, 300 Level, said that the Students Week is a week-long event which gives the students of the college the opportunity to showcase their different cultural background on campus, and to engage in some healthy recreational activities that will enhance mutual friendliness and engender peace and unity among all the students of the school. "The students week is an annual event that is celebrated by the college. It is a period when students are allowed to take time off their academic pursuit. In other words, it is a week when lecturers are supposed to suspend all academic activities and no scheduled examination or lecture may hold, unless if properly planned with the students. We are allowed to interact with one another on social grounds. We invite some resource persons, including lecturers and other distinguished personalities to speak to the students on key issues bothering the students. It is a week when we also invite some talents in the entertainment industry, to come and entertain the students," Com. Orunwa explained. He said that notable comedians and entertainers were invited this year to display their natural gifts before the students. This was confirmed on Thursday, July 23, 2009, when the likes of Pecky Saint, MC, Napoleon, Zikky G, and Rolex G stormed the campus to thrill the students with what they know how to do best. He urged the students not to use the opportunity to travel out of the school environment, as some of them were fond of but rather, to stay around and join in the weeklong fun filled event.

Also speaking, the Dean of Students Affairs of the college, Mr. D.M. Uduh, said that a lot of activities were lined up for the 2009 Students Week, and that it is a moment for all the students to break the boredom associated with academic activities and to experience some level of recreational life, which will in turn, enhance their productivity. He advised the students to use the opportunity to engage in meaningful social life, and not to hibernate, which would eventually lure them into other vices.

Some of the events that featured during the week include Students Rag Day, which took place on Friday, July 24, 2009, paper presentation on different topics that focused on students life and activities in the school, and cultural displays by the students in their different ethnic outfits.
