OKPAMBOR VOWS TO EFFECT CHANGE IN IKA N/E, AS IWEREBOR DEBUNKS RUMOUR OF RETIREMENT FROM POLITICS

Mr.
Okpambor who is widely known as ‘Okpams Georgia’ stated that time has come for
the people of Ika North East to courageously take their destiny in their own
hands by “uniting against the forces that have held the LGA down.” While
agreeing that a people must have a leadership, he posited that democracy should
be allowed to affect every segment of the society.

The
United States of America based Ika son, who is also the Chairman of Uduaghan
Vision 2011 in Atlanta Georgia, USA said their effort is to engender what he
called ‘true democracy’ in Ika North East, where all will benefit adding that
“we are bringing change into this local government area. The train of that
change is already in a sustained motion, and it cannot be stopped. Our people
are desirous of a change that will improve their living condition.”

Mr.
Okpambor used the opportunity to extol the leadership qualities of the Delta
State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, saying that he has tremendously
transformed the state with his administration’s three-point agenda which he
said dwells on human capacity development, security and infrastructural
development.

Earlier
in his speech, Chief H.C. Iwerebor, had praised the philanthropic efforts of
Mr. Okpambor, saying that long before he (Okpambor) ventured into politics, he
had assisted many Ika people in various ways, which he said are too numerous to
mention.

Chief
Iwerebor who used the opportunity to debunk the rumour that he has been asked
to retire from active politics by the governor said it was an ill-conceived and
calculated attempt to undermine the wonderful relationship between him and the
state governor.

Chief
Iwerebor who is popularly known as the ‘Ogidi of African Politics’ while saying
that he has been in politics for over 50 years to have understood the rules
that guide it, used the opportunity to commend the Executive Chairman of Ika
North East Local Government Council Hon. Festus Iwerebor for putting in place
infrastructure that deserve the governor’s commissioning. He equally applauded
the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for the massive infrastructural
development going on in all parts of the state, citing the Asaba Airport,
streets light and road projects, especially the recently awarded dualization of
the Old Lagos/Asaba road, which he said will boost socio-economic activities in
Ika land.

A
group known as ‘Chronicle Millennium Foundation,’ which said it is in
partnership with Amnesty International later gave an award to Mr. Christian
Okpambor for what it says is his drive for good governance.
