The Secretary to the Delta State
Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has resigned his position. This, according
to information gathered by Ika Weekly is to enable him pursue his
senatorial ambition, to represent Delta North Senatorial District at the
National Assembly, Abuja. The resignation, however, will take effect on the 15th
of July 2010.

 

It will be recalled that few months ago,
the Ika born great and renowned politician toured the 9 (nine) Local Government
Areas that make up, the Delta North Senatorial District, where he formally
declared his intention to run for the senatorial seat. At each of the Local
Government Areas he visited, with his large entourage, he was received by
overwhelming number of party faithful and supporters.

 

Dr. Okowa, for record purposes, has held
several high profiles and sensitive positions both at the local and state
levels.

 

He commenced his political career at the
then Ika Local Government Area, where he was the secretary to the council.
After the creation of more local government areas, the SSG, became the first
executive chairman of Ika North East local government council. He later moved
to the state level, where he functioned as Commissioner for Agriculture and
Water Resources, later Commissioner for Water Resources, after which time he
was appointed Commissioner for Health, where he made a lot of impact, improving
on the health-care needs of Deltans. The Ministry of Health, during the time of
Dr. Okowa, as Commissioner witnessed a lot of infrastructural development, as
he built and equipped many hospitals and health centers all over the state,
including the Central Hospital, Agbor, for which he is still very well
remembered.

 

Dr. Okowa, who is popularly known as the
Ekwueme, was appointed the Secretary to the Delta State Government in 2007, by
the incumbent governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, where he distinguished
himself, overseeing all the ministries and parastatals. According to an
impeccable source, he is to be succeeded by Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Omeni.
