The member representing Ika Federal Constituency at the House of representatives, Hon Victor Nwokolo has dedicated his victory at the Appeal Court sitting in Benin-City to Almighty God and to the people of his constituency. Hon Nwokolo, who spoke in a telephone interview with Ika Weekly, during the week, said he is dedicating his victory at the appellate court to God because He made it possible for the truth to prevail. The honourable member who also expressed gratitude to the good people of Ika nation for their prayers, encouragement and support, said he is now going to focus on youth and women empowerment, particularly widows.
In his words, "My focus is on youth and women development, particularly the widows. Most of our women are farmers and have lost their husbands, so, they need support in order to enable them take care of their children’s welfare and education."
On the question that since he was voted into office, he has not done any significant thing, Hon Nwokolo disclosed that," the Democratic Peoples Party candidate took me to court challenging the legality of my victory at the poll. The Peoples Democratic Party Candidate took me to the election tribunal at Asaba, and Appeal Court twice. It is not possible during this period for me to start empowering people. Now that victory has come our way we expect that our plans will start unfolding."
The honourable member appealed to the people of Ika Federal Constituency to give him time to source for enough fund that will go round the twenty-six wards in his constituency by the time the empowerment programme starts. He posited that his youth empowerment programme is not that of motor-cycle "I will set up a revolving loan scheme where every youth will get N300,000. In the first six months, no money will be paid. From seven months, they can start paying N20,000 every month until they are able to finish paying. No interest will be charged on the loan, and as they pay back, other persons will benefit from the scheme too: This is not to say that I will not put our people in public offices when the need arises." Hon Nwokolo said.
The honourable member also reiterated his commitment to the development of infrastructures in Ika land such as electricity. According to him, "we need to complete the National Integrated Power Project in Ika land. Electricity is very important to the people of my constituency, because when electricity is available, small and large scale businesses in the area will thrive. I will make efforts to ensure that the NIPP project is completed and commissioned.
On the Old Lagos/Asaba Road, Hon Nwokolo answered, "if our N50b bond obtained by the Delta State Government is successful it will improve on many things and we are praying that it will also help to tar some of the roads particularly the Old Lagos/Asaba road."
He therefore, wished his constituents a happy festive season, just as he enjoined them to be vigilant and report immediately to the security agents any suspicious character they see in their area. He said Christmas period should be a time for sober reflections, for that reason, Christians should celebrate with love and the fear of God.
Speaking further, Hon Nwokolo hinted that nation building is not the work of one man alone, hence, he is pleading for the total and continued support of Ika people. "How to contribute to the growth and development of our people should be our major concern. Even if you are not in government you can contribute through your ideas. All hands should be on deck to support those in government because no man is an island of knowledge. We need your ideas and contribution. So that together, we will build Ika nation of our dream," Hon Nwokolo concluded.
