Unknown thieves invaded St. Elizabeth’s Maternity, Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State and made away with the hospital mattresses. The incident which occurred in the early hours of Friday, 20th of January, 2012, was described by many as unfortunate. Narrating the ugly incident to Ika Weekly, one of the nurses at the hospital who pleaded anonymity said that she was on her routine check in the wards when she discovered that the mattresses in the post natal ward were missing, saying that she quickly called the other nurses including the security men who were at their duty posts when the thieves entered the hospital compound. The cashier of the hospital who pleaded to remain anonymous told Ika Weekly that she was shocked at the incident. She said that the people that committed the atrocity must have jumped through the fence, stressing that the security man who is fondly known as the “manager” was at his duty post at the time the act took place.However, adequate and urgent steps are being taken by the hospital authority to ensure maximum security of lives and properties in the hospital. Ika Weekly gathered that no casualty was recorded.
