The over filled
refuse dump site located along Uromi junction Agbor CTC and Baleke market have
been cleared by the Ika South Local
Government council.
Sanitarian Francis Ekih, Head of
Department, Environment Ika South while speaking with Ika Weekly said that the
volume of refuse generated in the locality is very much. He encouraged private
waste disposals to partner with the council in order to avoid indiscriminate
dumping of refuse in drainage.
He expressed displeasure over the improper
usage of the waste bin placed in strategic locations in Agbor by the council,
stating that some residents dump dead goat, feaces and weeds into the waste
bin.
He warned those misusing the bins to
desist, adding that anybody caught will be prosecuted.
Mr. Ekih disclosed that the Federal
Ministry of Environment have written to all local government in the country,
informing them on the need to clear drainages regularly as there will be heavy
rain fall this year.
Speaking further, he said, any moment
from now the local governments in conjunction with the Federal ministry of
environment will embark on the demolition of illegal structures along the
drainages.
He thanked the council chairman Engr.
Andrew Obiazi and caretaker committee members for the support given to them.
He also commended Ika Weekly newspaper
for informing the people on the activities of the local government.
