Determined
to rid Ika North East local government area of criminals, the police in
Owa-Oyibu had in early morning patrol on Thursday, 18th July, 2013 raided the
hide out of criminal elements in the area where five cultists were arrested for
raping a 13 years old girl for initiation. The patrol team was led by the
divisional police officer in charge of the station, DSP Ignatius Nnaji.
The five cultist gave their
identity as Marvelous Goddy from Edo state, Okoro Christian from Imo State,
Momodu Gift from Edo state, Chima Isaiah from Ebonyi state and Onyeka Ben from Agbor.
Speaking to newsmen, DSP Nnaji
said that the indigenes are not the ones perpetrating crime in Ika land but
strangers in the land are the ones committing crime. He urged the residents to
refrain from getting involved in criminal acts inimical to the growth and
success of the society. He declared zero tolerance for cultism, kidnapping and
any criminal activities that runs contrary to the well-being of the people just
as he advised all resident who are not interdem with the laws of the land as
regard security to leave Ika land because the area will be too hot for them as
they will leave no stone unturned in ensuring peace and security of Ika land.
In an interview with one of the
suspected rapists, Gift Momodu, he admitted committing the crime, saying that
the victim of the rape was his girl lover and that he alone slept with her. The
rape victim simply called Happy refuted this statement, saying that she was
forcefully raped to initiates, her into Arobaga cultist group.
At the time of filing this
report, the police are on preparation to file the case to court.
