DANPHIDEL AKPENYI SHOT BY GUNMEN ALONG CHARLES ST. – IKA WEEKLY

A public affairs analyst and prolific writer, Mr. Danphidel Akpenyi has been shot by yet to be identified gunmen. Mr. Akpenyi who is known for his oratory and the power of his pen was attacked around 8pm on Saturday evening, January 4, 2014 at a barbing saloon along Charles Street, Agbor.
                     
Narrating the near death experience to newsmen who thronged his Agbor residence through the help of his wife, as he was still finding it difficult to talk very well at  the time of filing this report, Mr. Danphidel said he left home that fateful day to see a business partner living in his neighbourhood but decided to have a clean shave first in a barbing salon along Charles Street, Agbor. He said that the barbar had hardly started barbing him when two fierce looking young men on top of a motorcycle zoomed into the area and one of them quickly jumped down and fired at him.
                     
He said the sound of the gun shot made those in the area to run for their dear lives, saying that he fell on the ground while trying to run.
                     
He said “It was the barbar who later realized from his hiding place that I was in pains and called one of his brothers on phone to carry me to Agbor Central Hospital. At the hospital, we spent several hours waiting for the radiologist to come. Several phone calls were put across to him by Dr. Shedrack Omumu. I was referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), the next day which was Sunday after the doctor in Central Hospital concluded that they do not have the equipment to threat me. I was discharged on Friday, January 10.
                     
Mr. Akpenyi who is still receiving treatment in one of the private hospitals in Agbor expressed gratitude to the Dein of Agbor kingdom, His Royal Majesty Keagborekwuzi I who he said visited him in his  house, Dr. Shedrack Omumu, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the Medical Director, Central Hospital, Agbor, the Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Police Station, SP Albert Uche Dike, the doctor on duty in Agbor Central Hospital when he was brought to the hospital, the nurses, and all those who have showed him love through, phone calls and visits to his house.
                     
At the time of filing this report, nobody has been arrested the matter but Ika Weekly gathered that men of the Agbor police are doing their best to unravel the gunman.
