IKA WEEKLY – The award of contract for the ongoing dredging of the Orogodo River in Boji-Boji metropolis has been hailed as a major breakthrough in the effort to improve the beauty and sanitary condition of the area.
The submission was made by Mr. Sunny Ichazu, President, Aluminum Association, Ika chapter on Tuesday while fielding questions from our reporter on issues affecting Ika nation.
Mr. Ichazu, was of the opinion that the dredging of the river was, long overdue, affirming that the concerted effort of some prominent indigenes has finally paid off.
He however stressed the need for the two traditional rulers of Agbor and Owa Kingdoms , His Royal Majesty, Keagborekuzi 1st and His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizormo to liaise with the appropriate authorities to monitor the job, so that it can be carried out in line with the actual specification and terms of contract.
Continuing, Mr. Ichazu stated that it would amount to a huge financial waste if the drainage systems and roads which are in dilapidated condition are not equally rehabilitated. He therefore urged the Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Councils in collaboration with the State Government to construct drainage systems that can withstand the menace of rain erosion, which has been the bane of the area, stressing that the topography of the area must be taken into consideration while awarding contracts for the rehabilitation of the roads and drainage system.
Mr. Ichazu also pleaded with residents of the metropolis to stop dumping refuse into the gutters, as the consequence of such action is detrimental to everybody.
He thanked the Federal Government and the Benin Owena River Basin Authority for awarding the contract, which in his opinion will enhance socio-economic activities in Ika land.
