Hon.
(Engr.) Uboh made the disclosure during a meeting she had with members of the
Think Tank Committee and her Campaign Coordinators, at her constituency office,
located along Old Lagos/Asaba road in Boji-Boji, Owa, on Saturday November, 7,
2009.
The
federal legislator who commended the people of Ika nation for their continued
support disclosed that she has packaged an empowerment programme that will cut
across gender and age.
She
revealed that the programme which will cover agriculture, health, skill
acquisition and Information Communication Technology, ICT will be spread across
the various wards that make up Ika Federal constituency.
“We
are going to support the youths and women who already have skills in various
areas but have been unable to raise money to start their business. What we are
going to do is to take them to functional skill acquisition centres to refresh
their memories, after which we provide them with starter packs and some amount
of money to start off. Our youths who have acquired ICT knowledge will also be
part of the refresher course, and thereafter we will provide them with the
necessary materials to start off on their own.
“We
are equally going to provide our farmers with fertilizers and some money to
boost their agricultural outputs. Those who are physically challenged in our
midst, who have been persistent in their call for empowerment are equally going
to be assisted to stand on their own. In that wise, materials and cash will be
distributed to them. We are also hoping to establish a skill acquisition centre
in Ika land to create empowerment for our people,” she explained.
Hon.
(Engr.) Uboh also revealed that arrangements have been made to screen women in
the area for cervical cancer, which she said is recording high incidence among
black women around the world. “We are providing materials and men for that
exercise. Doctors who are experts in that area are coming to screen our women;
especially the rural women and a machine will be made available for the
exercise, after which the screening machine will be donated to the Central Hospital, Agbor. Those with eye problems
will also be treated and glasses handed over to them,” she said.
She
stated that members of Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba Communities and other ethnic groups
resident in Ika land will also benefit from the proposed empowerment programme.
The
programme according to the federal legislator will run five days before the end
of November, 2009. Hon. (Engr.) Uboh encouraged members of the Think Tank to
always monitor projects sited in their respective communities or wards, even as
she promised to continue to provide diesel for the generators powering the
different boreholes in some communities in Ika land. “I had initially wanted to
do this for just a year but I have resolved to continue for four years,” she
disclosed.
Earlier,
members of the Think Tank and Coordinators had praised Hon. (Engr.) Uboh for
her effective and result- yielding representation of Ika Federal Constituency
at Abuja. While
noting that those who have been representing the people at various levels have
not done much in comparison to her achievements, in less than 2 years, they
described her as a champion who have really justified her representation of Ika
Federal Constituency. The group stated that the people have earned the
dividends of democracy which has constituently been denied them.
