GOOD NEWS: AS DUALIZAION AND PAYMENT OF PROPERTIES FOR OLD LAGOS/ASABA ROAD NOW A REALITY

land known as the Ika Landlords/Landladies Association has commended the Delta
State acting governor and one of the illustrious sons of Ika nation, Rt. Hon.
Prince Sam Obi on his averred commitment to addressing the plight of Ika people,
particularly on the dualisation of the Old Lagos/Asaba Road, which has for
sometime now become a death trap for its numerous users”.The association
made this commendation while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after
their meeting with the Special Project Director on Old Lagos/Asaba Road, Hon.
Pastor Cordilia Onya in her office at Agbor. The meeting  which 
has Hon. Onye Cordilia, Ika Landlords/Ladies Association chairman, Mr.
J.B. Onyemaka, its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Vincent Arimokwu and Financial
Secretary, Mr. G. U. Idiaghe, and other stakeholders such as Director, Urban
and Rural Roads, Ministry of Works, Asaba, Director, Valuation, Ministry of
Lands, Survey and Urban Development, The Managing Partners Irem Uka and Co and
representatives of Property Owners and Hi-Tech Construction Ltd, in attendance
was said to be convened by the Special Project Director so as to intimate them
on the state government preparedness to dualise the Old Lagos/Asaba Road  which has become a serious public debate
before the sack of the former Delta state governor, Dr Emmamuel Uduaghan  by the Appeal 
Court. “ We expresse our profound gratitude to Rt. Hon. Obi for his
plans towards the actualization of the dualisation of  Old Lagos/Asaba Road.

Highlighting the
outcome of the meeting, the Ika Landlord/Landladies said that Hon. Cordilia has
in her brief stated that the dualization of the Old Lagos/Asaba Road will
be  carried out in different phases. The
first phase of the construction will commence from Okoh Street junction of the
Old Lagos/Asaba Road to College of Education, junction including the Orogodo
bridge, noting that while massive work on the first phase will be going on,
government will be paying compensation to property owners that will be affected
in the second phase. In line with this, Hon. Cordilia Onya before her meeting
with the  Ika Landlord/Ladies has met
with property owners and estate agents.

In a related
development,  Ika Landlord/Landladies
Association while  congratulation  Rt. Hon. Sam Obi on his recent elevation  assured him of their maximum support.We are solidly
behind Rt. Hon. Prince Sam Obi and will always give him our full support
whenever the need arises,” they said. The association which enjoined the state
government not to fail in informing them on developments on the Old Lagos Asaba
Road by carrying them along as one of its stakeholders, as far as projects in
Ika land  are concerned, called on other
Ika leaders to emulate the good intension of the acting governor. They also
appealed to all property  owners who are
going to be affected by the dualisation to co-operate with the state government
during the periods compensation will be paid and also when construction will be
going on.
