As the 2011 April general elections draw hear, the Democratic Peoples Party candidate of the Delta State House of Assembly, Ika North-east constituency, Prince Davis Nkeonyeasua Obaze, has expressed optimism that he is the chosen one to take over the representation of the area in the state assembly from Rt Hon Prince Sam Obi. Mr. Obaze made the expression on Monday, while fielding questions from our reporter, during the inauguration of his campaign team in Boji-Boji ,Owa.
The DPP candidate said power belongs to God, and that he does not believe in godfatherism, adding that, he is in the House of Assembly race to bring succour to his people of Ika North-east who have been shortchanged in many ways by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
In his words, I am the chosen one, God has given me the mandate. I am going there to represent my people with the fear of God
Giving reasons for joining the state House of Assembly race, Mr. Obaze said, my people are suffering. There are no good roads, no jobs, and our infrastructures are down. Good examples are Efeizomor, and Ohue streets, Okundanye and Ofien Primary Schools are no longer conducive for learning because their buildings are all dilapidated. As a youth and voice of the youths, if I get to the state House of Assembly I will make sure that my people are well represented
On his chances of beating the incumbenty, he answered that as the wind of change is blowing everywhere he has the assurance that people of Ika North-east will vote for DPP, because as their voice, he is going there to give them effective representation, saying overtime, he has been a political bricklayer, now is his own time to join government in the ruling of the state. He criticized politicians who give out motor-cycles to graduates in the name of empowering them, pointing out that graduates are not supposed to be treated as disabled people but as people with visions.
He also maintained that with one man, one vote , DPP will surely win all her elections. He therefore called on all Deltans to vote for DPP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Great Oveje Ogboru in the April election, for he is the only man that can rule Delta State with the fear of God.
In the same vein, the campaign director to Prince Davis Obaze, and publisher of Agogo Anioma, Hon Andrew Nnabuife Azikwe said that the April elections will be a walk over for DPP in the state, as Deltans are no more interested in money bag politicians but rather those politicians that will deliver the dividends of democracy.
Expressing hope that with or without money Mr. Davis Obaze will emerge victorious at the poll, he urged Rt Hon Prince Sam Obi not to waste his money, instead he should obey the convention in Ika North-east local government area, that nobody should go for an elective position more than two times, by bowing out of the election. He added that even if the House of Assembly seat is zoned to Ika East, it should not remain in one particular community or family. He however, enjoined the people Ika North-east to vote wisely and for DPP.
