Barrister Victor Nwokolo, candidate of the Accord Party, AP, in the Saturday April 9 House of Representatives, Ika Federal Constituency election was on Wednesday 27, April, amidst criticisms that trailed the legality of the election declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, appointed to announce the result, Mr. Mordi.
Declaring Barr. Nwokolo as the winner, Mr. Mordi said the Accord Party candidate having polled the highest votes and having also met all the conditional requirements was hereby returned as duly elected person.
The venue for the announcement of the result which happened to be at the Ika South council secretariat, Agbor, was guarded by the presence of armed security men. Earlier attempts to stop the Returning Officer, who the People Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Engr Doris Uboh, and Democratic Peoples Party candidate, Festus Chukwuyem Okoh described as insincere, from announcing the result did not work.
However, Doris Uboh has said that she is not going to accept the result, as she is poised to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion in the court of law.
Also in an interview with Ika Weekly, the DPP candidate, Festus Okoh hinted that there were many alleged irregularities during that National Assembly election in Ika Federal Constituency.
“We were not informed of any collation or announcement of the election result, either by writing, phone call or text message. How can you declare the result that has earlier been cancelled without the knowledge and presence of candidates and party agents” Mr. Festus Okoh asked.
He added that his team of lawyers are looking into all the documents and will in no distant time will be heading to the tribunal to challenge the fake result that was announced and declared, stressing that “the whole world is aware that the INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega announced on air that there will be re-run election in Anambra and Ika Federal Constituency, (Ika North east, ward 10,11 and 12 in Ika South), maintaining that in the case of Anambra state, there was a re-run, that, what is happening to that of Ika Federal Constituency where there was no election and the same fake result is announced and placed.
It should be noted that the April 9, National Assembly election in Ika Federal Constituency has been characterized with election irregularities and violence which have delayed INEC declaration of the winner of the election. However, a new INEC Returning Officer to Ika Federal Constituency on April 27th, 2011 at Agbor threw aside the earlier confession of the former Returning Officer to the area, Dr. Godwin Avwioro, that he was forced at a gun point by agents of a particular political party to announce fake result, and declared the Accord Party candidate in the election, Barr. Victor Nwokolo as winner.
